RAF WWII Roundels

I have looked here and elsewhere, and to be honest, I have yet to find a consensus on the right colours/paints for RAF WWII Roundels. I've looked at the IPMS Stockholm site, and I do not see a suggestion.

I want to try masks on my next build, however the colour has me stuck

I use mainly acrylics, Tamiya, Gunze, Vallejo. IIRC, WEM does something but it is for post 1945? Also not acrylic.

Has anyone got a good paint mix, or suggestion that they care to share?

Thanks in advance.

I can't remember where I got this from but I've got these Tamiya mixes saved in my references.

Dull Roundel Red : 75% Flat Red (XF-7), 25% Red Brown (XF-64)

Roundel Blue : 75% Flat Blue (XF-8), 25% Flat Black (XF-1)

Roundel Yellow : 95% Flat Yellow (XF-3), 5% Flat Red (XF-7)

Jase has beaten me to it ....here's where he may well have found them

coposite guru,

Using Tamya acrylics the following are good mixes:-

Dull Roundel Red - Mix of 75% flat Red (XF-7 ), 25% NATO Brown (XF-68)
Blue - Mix of 95% flat Blue (XF-8), 5% flat Black (XF-1)
Yellow - Flat Yellow (XF-3) with a tiny amount of flat Red (XF-7)

HTH,

Ian

Not tired them but look quite beliveable

Hi Jase

i seem to have had some kind of low grade illnesses for about 2 months now and it's turning my brains to mush, I didn't even notice they were different!!!!

Maybe the blue mix with 5% black is for the earlier brighter blue rather than the later duller blue? My refs are not to hand, just a thought.

Note, the ones I posted were by ian from Ad Astra masks, if Av8fan is looking for a mask supplier.

Come to think of it, I'm sure the mixes I have are from Ad Astra masks too so your theory on the blue could very well be correct.

Jase, Troy: Thank you both for your information. I will give both versions a try. I am not great at mixing the same colours consistantly(guess it is past time to get better eh?)

Mr. Millman, Thank you and I am sending you a PM.

I have to cut my own masks at the moment as much as I would like to order from Ad Astra or Maketar.
