Procopius Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 The weathering looks a little worse in person, but I'm still pretty proud of this one, for sure. Everything really came together for me. (I also overweathered way too much, as this photo confirms: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24101413@N03/5264040287/) Many thanks to everyone who answered my questions about stencils! I used: the older version of the Fujimi FG.1 1/72 kit; Xtracrylics (which were immensely frustrating); a combination of kit decals from a newer FG.1 boxing, the Airdoc RAF Phantom FGR.2 in Germany decals, and the Airdoc FGR.2 in Germany stencil set, suitably modified, and a Flory models wash, for the very first time. I'll probably add stores and whatnot later. 6
Haggis9444 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Very nice.. I live reasonably close to Leuchars and remember hearing and seeing them overhead.. Great sight.. 1
Duncan B Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Good stuff, I don't think it is over weathered at all, they tended to get quite scruffy looking in the grey scheme. Duncan B
Dr Evil Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 You can't really overweather an RAF Toom - check out the grot in this thread. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=49727
AnonymousAA72 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Thats come out rather well....nice build....................however, the underwing serials weren't applied in the air defence grey schemes despite what may the decal instructions may say!
Procopius Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 GOD DA---I had wondered about that, because I couldn't see them on any photos, but they all had danglies on their pylons, so I thought "maybe..." Arrrggh! And I worked so hard to get each of the individual letters and numbers properly aligned. Alas!
AnonymousDFB1 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Very good, I think the weather is okay as well, you used to get some real dirty and worn Phantoms
Paul J Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 An interesting scheme and a good illustration of markings anomalies with the underwing serial still applied after changing from the gree/grey topside camo. Nice work there.
Procopius Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Yes, that's it...marking anomalies. Intended it the whole time. Yes. 1
