Gary West
Right, first confession - Im not a Hunter expert I took my Academy FGA9 and played around with the back end so it looks like an F6. Always looking for something a bit out of the ordinary but I surprised even myself when I saw this picture and wanted to build it. Taken around 63 at Binbrook of some visiting Hunters of the AFDS, then based at West Raynham I believe. As you can probably see, this particualr a/c is ex Blue Diamonds and still wears the main scheme from those days. Construction was straight forward so to the painting stage As you can see, I'm too tight to invest in Blue Diamond decals so out came the Tamiya tape... Up to the loft for the painting next. HELP - Ive used up the smaller tanks and only have the larger FGA9 tanks - if anyone can help and would like to swap a couple of F6 fuel tanks for a pair of FGA9's, I'd be appreciative. SimonR
Hi Gary, Great scheme. I have seen a photo somewhere of a 145 Squadron (I think) F6 at Chivenor in the Blue D's scheme, often thought that would be a good one to do so well done on beating me to it! I'll have a look in the spares box to see if I have any of the smaller tanks, not convinced I have though. cheers Simon
Paul J
I've got spare tanks if you'd like them! PM sent.

gingerbob
That's a great scheme! If you'll forgive me, your blue seems brighter than the colour in the photo. Have you any comment? "Get stuffed!" is one I can accept. bob

Gary West
If you'll forgive me, your blue seems brighter than the colour in the photo. Have you any comment? Get stuffed would be dead rude Bob - no need to worry though shes already looking much darker having had a couple of coats of Kleer. Post images below! Those Roundal bars - masked her all up then forgot to take "in progress" pics but it went something like this - masked rectangle and sprayed White, masked off an inner lip (giving me the White border) and cut out another circle with my P cutter then sprayed the Red. Finally masked the top half off and sprayed Black. Possibly over cooked the border line (depth) but that'll do for me Decalling next....

Gary West
Probably the final update before completion - applied a satin varnish, and having had to wait for wing tanks (thanks Paul) brought them up to speed. Will hopefully finish her off over the weekend.

nimrod54
Great looking model Gary. Is the blue your own mix?. I am making an F60 for the 1/144 GB and it looks like a good starting point for the blue underside. My references say to use PR Blue but that seems to grey. Gary West
Is the blue your own mix?. No John, Ive used Humbrol 25 which is Roundal Blue - The real thing looks a shade or two darker in natural day light than these images would suggest (lighting) and as you can see from the above, the Blue was applied over a Grey primer, with a couple of coast of Kleer and finally a satin varnish. Gary, thanks for the paint info. Having checked I think that the Roundel Blue may not be correct but perhaps a mix of the two over a grey primer might give me something near to the shade I need. My reference states that the paints used on the F60 were produced by ICI and they are unable to provide any equivalent FS, BS or RAL code. Thanks again. The original colour of the Blue Diamonds aircraft was BS381C:108 Aircraft Blue. This is very close to Roundel Blue so your model looks pretty close Gary. Good job. The colours used on the 'desert' camo middle eastern aircraft, e.g. Saudi F.60, Qatai FGA.78, Abu Dhabi FGA.76, were indeed specific ICI colours which were not part of any of the existing standards like BS381C. I've droned on about these colours on BM previously so I won't bore you with it again here and hijack the thread, but have a look at what I posted on how to get close to the correct colours with Humbrol or Tamiya paints here or here. The colours quoted by Xtradecal are hopeless!
