Wez
Hi all, I've just got the Hi-Decal sheet for Turkish Phantoms as seen in this link http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/HD72058 The sheet features E's and ETM's (both F and RF ETM's) but I don't know what makes an ETM, the only difference on the decal sheet instructions is that the ETM has a larger blade antenna on the spine but that's about it. The instructions mention an Air-Doc book on the subject but I just want a couple of different colour schemes to use on my Revell F-4F. Talking of which, as far as I know an F-4F is a German spec F-4E and is superficially similar - unless you know different. Do I have to make any changes to my F-4f to get a Turkish F-4E derivative? TIA Wez
Dr Evil
Without doing further digging, I believe the upgrade to the Turkish fleet was primarily avionics and other internal systems. Apart from the aerials you mention, IIRC the cockpit was upgraded with HOTAS, wide angle HUD and no doubt some glass displays although I can't ever recall seeing a picture. It's probably not a million miles from the layout of the upgraded Greek aircraft of which there are pictures around. Not 100% but is probably a better starting point than the original E cockpit, unless anyone knows any different? As for the Revell kit, the only major airframe difference will be that you'll need to source slotted tailplanes from somewhere.
A.C.Acikgoz
etm has some electronic update, nothing major...it is not an total upgrade like "2020 terminator" one.. according to official press release; 1. The aim of the project is to keep the 16 F-4E's which were not modernized under Terminator programme until 2014 - 2016 (the date of introduction of F-35 into Turkish Air Force)2. CTVS (Cockpit Television Video System), AVTR (Airborne Video Tape Recorder), IFF Mod-4, new comms and nav systems integrated into the aircraft.3. Cockpit layout modernized in order to accompany new CDU's; they are most probably borught to a standard layout as with the Isik-modernized RF-4E's, designated as RF-4ETM. if you want to make an etm from german f, first of all you have to change stabs with slotted one and some small antennas and other small bits arournd the fuselage and wings like new nav lights, antennas etc...
Wez
Thanks Gents, I think I've got plenty of slotted tailplanes in the spares box. I think I'll have to do a bit of web surfing to find out more. Wez
