Viking
Just before Christmas 2012 Wingnut Wings released their long awaited Fokker D.VII kits in 1:32 scale in three versions. All three are beautiful kits reviewed here. I started one as soon as possible, deciding to go with the Fokker built version (Other boxings are for the OAW and Albatros built versions) mainly because it featured the Fokker 'streaky green' brush painted finish as decals, and I wanted to see how they would look.I chose Willi Gabriels machine on the basis that it was colourful, and because Gabriel was an interesting character. He rapidly started scoring kills when posted to Jasta 11, but his maverick lack of discipline style saw him infuriate his CO, Hermann Goering, who had him kicked off front line flying.Anyway, back to the kit. It was a total pleasure to build, but everything needs to be done carefully. Fit is of the highest standard and the instrctions very clear so you must follow them to the letter. There is a build log here. The model is fully rigged, the D.VII was designed to do away with rigging wires between the wings, so the only wires are between the undercarraiage, and on the control surfaces. Enough of the talk, on with the photos; Thanks for looking, John

buccymad
that is one ugly little fokker!!!!! of all the little fokkers ive seen ,this is my least favourite!! ! but........ you have knocked it out of the park so to speak it has made me overlook my natural dislike of this aircraft ,and might i say actually appreciate some of its finer points. the detail on that engine is superb,as is the finish, these colors would normally look bizzare on any other kit,but the seem perfect for this my gob has been well and trully smacked
IPMS19
-WW I is not my favourite period for modelling, too much troubles with the struts and wings probably, but when I see such a beatifully realized nightmare (for me ) I have no other solution than to applause with both hands....... Viking
Looks superb! Is the fuselage steaking decals? Thank you. Yes the fuselage streaking is done by using the decals in the kit, there is a bit more info in the build log. Buccy Mad - thats you and Mrs Viking sharing the same opinion of my lovely liveried D.VII She says the same as you about it. Cheers John
gcn
Excellent build John very nicely executed, the prop is a real beauty. From your build it seemed you didn't have the fit issues that others have had re the front panels. I have to agree with the comments re the scheme I'm afraid, ill be doing pinky purple Li so what do I know. I'd be interested to know your photo set up as the pictures in this thread and the build have been excellent. TCinLA
Very nice. I did this one myself, and I think it really "stands out in the crowd" of the other WNW models on the shelf. I think this D.VII is just superb, their best yet (I'll likely change my mind when I do the Snipe, keep saying that about each one as I get it). Viking
Hi gcn, I certainly did have a problem with the cowling panels. I thought I had them all set up nice and square, but when viewed from above the frontal radiator was slightly out of kilter skewed a couple of degrees to the right. So I pulled it and the two side panels off and did again, this time ok. Its definately a 'go slow and take your time' part of the build. My photo set up is embarrasingly basic. I have a Fuji A190 Finepix digital pocket camera. It's at is best in natural daylight and doesn't cope well with artificial light, but does most of the job I need it to. I use a 'Benk' photostudio from Maplin for the Work in progress shots, which assembles as a sort of cube with light diffusing panels on the side. Its very portabale and packawayable, which is what I really need due to restricted space. Finished pictures are on a base I made, with a peice of 'sky' card bought from a W H Smith art section a couple of years ago. Cheers John
