I don’t know but it would be rude not to add one to the collection. Maybe Cees can take some resin copies of the one he’s converting from the prototype HK Lancaster 🤪

Oh God...my dream kit is on the way... I must have it... Lancaster is for me a symbol of british victory over nazi Germany...

 

Unfortunately - is probably expensive, huge and in box are parts for standard bomber... No Dam Buster and no Tallboy/Grandslam.... Kit all 3in1 was ideal...

If all goes to plan there will be some Lancaster assemblies testshots (so not 3d printed) at the upcoming Shizuoka show may 10 till 13th. These will not be full Lancaster testshots as the tooling is still being worked on.

Of course the main consideration now for many will be the cost ??

 

From what I understand, the cost of the B17 was $350 (£250) approx. so I have that in the back of my mind when pondering the cost of the Lancaster

I also never knew there was a difference apart from the engines' manufacturer (Rolls Royce vs. Packard). Or maybe are you talking about the windows on top of the bomb bay? They were deleted on later machines but not specific to the Mk. I or III. Apart from that - I WANT ONE!!!

Yes , those useless little windows on the Mk1 and 2 ,the needle bladed props ,paddle blades on the Mk3 ,later pitot head ,and the

H2S radome carried on many Mk 3s ,and not forgetting the longer,much better looking bombaimers blister .Altogether a better

looking kite. But that`s just my twopennyworth !.

Also, I agree with those who say the Halifax was a better looking aeroplane ,so long as you mean the Mk3 onwards .The Mk1

was an ugly looking sod ! .

I'm under the same impression as Chris, in that the fuselage windows appeared on the three marks until a certain date, ie it wasn't a Mk specific thing and even aircraft within a similar serial range were built with and without them.  By the time some Lancasters were rebuilt, and completely skinned over the windows area, it gets even more complicated.

Same with the bomb aimers blister. 

As with other Lancaster kits, just a case of painting over, or on the later or refurbished machines, filling and smoothing.

71chally’s right: the windows appeared on Mks. I, II and III and were deleted from production somewhere after the JA/JB production batch and almost certainly before the ND-serialled aircraft.  The ED-serialled aircraft converted for Operation Chastise in April 1943 were all Mk. IIIs with Packard-built engines and had the windows.  On some aircraft the windows were simply painted over, often at Squadron level.

 

R5868 now at Hendon is an early production Mk. I and had the windows as built.  When she was overhauled (at Barkston Heath IIRC) after service with 83 Squadron she was fitted either with a new-build rear fuselage which never had the windows, her original rear fuselage which had had new skinning to delete the windows or a rear fuselage from another Lancaster that had had this work carried out.

At least there will be the option to fill the windows IN rather than drill windows OUT, for the earliest aircraft.

Best we can hope for is a clear sprue offering a change of B/A's blister and pilots cockpit blister ??

Looks like the H2S blister is optional . . . .

    I dealt with a usa hobby shop and a  preorder about  4yrs ago they promised it would be available with in 6 mths
