A brilliant and fascinating DVD, with stacks of footage I have not seen before, recommended.

I also note C.N. Hill's 'A Vertical Empire' second edition has not long been published:

I believe the original rocket-engine test base is still standing on the Isle of Wight?

All the actual firings were at Woomera in Australia

Yep, IIRC near the Needles!

Also IIRC I believe that there are still some relics of our space race up extant at RAF Spadeadam, which might have been a launch site??

Full static firing tests of Blue Streak was carried out at Spadeadam, with BS bolted to the ground on full power, but no launch occurred there.

One of the UK's satellites Prospero is still in orbit.
