Selwyn
Just a quick question. The French Air Force and Navy both used FB5 Vampires and their own built Mistrals, but did they use any two seaters T11/ T55? Selwyn

Selwyn
Not in my reference books. John Thanks John for the confirmation. I couldn't find anything in my references, I just thought it strange that the French had all those Vampires and no Trainers! Selwyn
Giorgio N
Thanks John for the confirmation. I couldn't find anything in my references, I just thought it strange that the French had all those Vampires and no Trainers! Selwyn They were not the only one: Italy used a large number of Vampires and even built the type under DH licence, yet they did not use the trainers. They bought a number of two seaters in the shape of 14 NF that were however not used for flight training but to teach all weather fighter techniques
vampiredave
..........and Canada! 85 Vampire F 3s (86 if you count the attrition airframe) but the Defence budget did not allow for a trainer version.
Séan Pádraig
I just thought it strange that the French had all those Vampires and no Trainers! Selwyn We (the Irish Air Corp) only had the trainers and no fighters... maybe the French pilots trained in Ireland...

aerofan
From my reference, it appears that one trainer was sold to Japan too. Edited February 10, 2013 by aerofan
Giorgio N
A number of countries used Vampire trainers without using the single seaters. These included Burma, Chile, Indonesia and Portugal. Sri Lanka ordered a few T.55 too but these were returned to the UK immediately and the order cancelled
Panoz
A number of countries used Vampire trainers without using the single seaters. These included Burma, Chile, Indonesia and Portugal. Sri Lanka ordered a few T.55 too but these were returned to the UK immediately and the order cancelled Given that the two seater had full weapons capability and actually higher performance than the single seater (plus ejection seats in the later versions) there really was no need for the single seat variant. France operated single seat Vampire F1 for trainnig and then modified them as drones. Photo from Aircam:
