Gav0909
It was only late last year that I got back into scale modelling after being a wargamer for years. My first kit was a 1/48th Revell Apache, but the first WW2 plane (my mainstay as a youngster) was obviously a Spitfire. This is Airfix's old tooling MkVb. Its mainly out the box, but with a resin cockpit set, resin wheels and brass 20mm cannons. The canopy wouldn't fit in the open positon, hence the closed over hood, but open side door. Just imagine its been closed over due to some rain or something..... Anyway, it was painted with a mix of humbrol, Vallejo and Revell paints. Main colours were airbrushed (my first real use of the airbrush as well btw!). Cheers for looking.

rmcclure
For a return to aviation modelling that's a very fine result - well done. And what a choice - you can't go wrong with one of Mitchell's best! I look forward to seeing more of your work. Cheers, Roger

JMChladek
The freehand airbrushed camo green seems a little soft edged, but overall I like the result you achieved with this modeling classic. Airfix's ole Mk V still has years of modeling life left in it from what I can see.
MPaul
Very good. I have just picked up the Airfix Mk1A, and if it comes out half as good as that, I will be very pleased. What did you use for the antenna cable? I have just redone the one on my 'Schmitt 109 using a hair from my GFs hairbrush, works really well. Cheers mate, yeah the camo is quite soft edged (airbrush is a relatively cheap one, and with a 0.3 nozzle so not the smallest either) but I quite like the effect, has more of a camo effect I think than hard edge camo. Cheers though. What did you use for the antenna cable? I have just redone the one on my 'Schmitt 109 using a hair from my GFs hairbrush, works really well. The antenna is stretched sprue. Just take a length of sprue and heat it for a short while over a lighter or something til it goes soft, then just draw it out to desired thickness, let it cool then cut to length. Had heard of people using it, and thought to try it myself and it worked a treat I think!

Cheers though. I never could freehand camo to save my life, but I've found that the blutack/poster putty snakes method works VERY well for camo pattern masking, especially on RAF camo. I did it with my Mk1 pre-war build a few months back for the Interwar GB. In any event, I still really like what you achieved with this classic kit.
