HOUSTON
Well, a few guesses, but some of your are way off track! I hope that the photo below, which clearly shows an ejection seat might help in narrowing down the options. You can see that Airfix's representation of the cannon troughs have been drilled out and replaced with brass tubing, filed and sanded flush; This is a massive improvement in this area. Nice.. Erm second guess ..is this a English Electric T5 Lightning.. Edited March 21, 2013 by Greg B
Mark
That is unless you are a pilot Funnily enough... Anyway, I think that this has run its course and yes, it is of course a Lightning of the English Electric variety. Specifically it is a Lightning F.Mk.2, XN728 of 92 Squadron in 1964. The kit is the Airfix original boxing of the early lightning and has been supplemented by a resin cockpit and seat, Eduard etched metal, a bit of brass tubing and white metal undercarriage from Aeroclub. The full Aeroclub treatment continued with their nose weight, radome and intake ring all in white metal. I originally thought that the decals were Xtradecal, but no, they are in fact Aeromaster, sheet 48-369. I have no idea why I have not built one so far. But it is a great kit and although very basic in some ares (undercarriage bays for example) can be easily enhanced with the Eduard set. There are a few resin cockpit sets on the market and in this case I took out the KMC set from the box of after market goodies that resides in the cupboard. Hope you like the progress so far and I'll post some more photos up tomorrow.

Miggers
See,I knew it,the little known "Bristol Bullshooter" as flown by Wing Commander Tony Hancock,Test Pilot(BBC TV/Radio and bar) ably assisted by Aircraftsman Kenneth Williams(BBC TV/Radio and bar)..... Everyone knows that evolved into the English Electric P1 Deltic locomotive and by a series of pre-production types, the Lightning as we all know it today. "I was right you know" "Yes,we know you were" "No one else guessed it correctly" "Yes,we know they didn't" "I knew it was a Bullshooter as soon as I saw it you see" "Yes,we know you did" "You don't see many of those you know" "Yes,we know you don't" Read of course with Tony Hancock/Kenneth Williams voices in mind............

Admiral Puff
You're all wrong - it's a test shot for the new Italamigawa Farley Fruitbat FGR.XXVIII(a)(2) - the one with the Chesterfields for pilots' seats and the gas-fired pie warmer ...
Mark
Will these photos convince you that it is not a Bristol Bullshooter, a Farley Fruitbat or a DHC Beaver? It's been great fun to read the comments though, thanks all! The kit itself, as those of you who have made it, doesn't exactly fall together and there is going to be some filling and fettling tomorrow. But that's all for today. G'night!
Murdo
Okay, I give up. What's an E.E. Lightning? Sum kinda missile or summink? I dunno, looks like a fruitbat to me, actually, closer to a Shagbat... Wiv jets. And a couple less wings, 'n crew 'n wires 'n stuff. I mean, where's the rest of the crew and there's no way that will land on water. Not in one piece anyway. If it does it won't take off again! Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Surely, here we have the Farley Fruitbat Mk XCIX(g)!!? - I've been looking for pics of the Welland powered "Jetbat" prototype for ages - and now someone comes along and builds one!! Just one thing Busdriver me old mucker - all my refs show that there was a rearward firing 6pdr QF gun that the pilot aimed using a shaving mirror, and reloaded with the help of the "Farley Chimp" ( literally a chimp wearing a Farley Aviation collar and tie) You seem to have missed this detail..... Good to see you have captured the underside lard reserve though. Top effort Jonners
