Encore/Heller Gladiator II

Hello

My second completion for 2013 is another semi complete model that had languished in the twilight zone for a very long time.

This is the Encore boxing of the Heller Gladiator. Some very nice transfers were produced for the kit by Scale Master. Colour options are a Munich Crisis RAF machine and others from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Denmark and China. I think some of those will be finding their way on to the new Airfix model, whenever that decides to show up.

To be contrary, I decided on a Finnish machine and used markings from a Frog lucky bag I bought decades ago and which had the 'Hakaristi' (?) I needed - I think it came from a Mohawk kit?

The colour scheme is basic RAF temperate land scheme, shadow shaded and with night, white and silver undersides. To this were added the yellow markings (Eastern Front?)

It lay unfinished because I had no serials for it. This was until I bought some Modeldecal sheets for my Spitfire WHIF in the recent Group Build. As it was I still had no white underwing serials. Never mind.

No rigging I'm afraid, the narrative here is that the Finnish Riggers were replacing it!

Blimey I've completed two models in 2013 already. That equals my usual output fora year!

May do the Vampire next.

Enough waffle, here are the pix............

Are those Norwegian bands on the decal sheet right/ They don't look to be in the right colour sequence.

I'd never noticed before! It would be interesting to see what the profile in SAM showed. Not seen my copy in years.

Nice Gladiator and love the Finnish scheme.

Yes those Norgie bands are incorrect, they are the wrong way around as the outer colour should be red, as per the Frog Gladiator decals.

I think that one of the Spitfire`s coded RAB and flown by a Norwegian Wing Commander (cannot remember his name, sorry but initials RAB, possibly Berg?) wore Norwegian bands for a time, but that these may have been the wrong way around, as per the Encore decals?

All the best
