I confirm that the KH designer, known as M. Song, announced on December 5th, 2012 (ARC Jet Modeling forum) that his next creation will be a Russian aircraft. And that's it. At the moment a new 1/48th Su-17/-22 familly by KH is pure speculation.

That said, it's plausible as some five years ago while he was still working for Trumpeter M. Song shown pictures of a two-seat Su-17/-22UM-3 "Fitter-G" kit prototype - reported to be in 1/32nd scale. But do I've to say that the shapes of this prototype were considered by most of the Su-17/-22 specialists as inaccurate (fuselage spin, windshield, nose etc.).

Pictures of this craftmanship are still visible here since February 2007:

Having recently read several critics and reviews about KH kits I think that this company (talentuous!) designer has to invest more time in research & development for his projects. He has to be far more rigourous as, considering their average level of difficulty, the KH kits are designed for skilled modellers - a rather demanding (maniac) public - and also sold at premium price.

I know that the first in business usually takes all the market but in my opinion the result of this production race is quite poor despite the fine look (at first glance!) of these new proposed kits. Most of the Asian kit producers like Trumpeter, HobbyBoss and KittyHawk are obviously working in a hurry. We've never seen so many new kits as today. But I think it's time to recognize that working too fast - and sometimes from unreliable sources (*) - can result in inaccuracies and lower quality work. Modellers must be aware that the release of all these attractive but nonetheless wrongish designed new kits kill the market for better contenders.

(*) A French modeller (http://www.master194.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73665) observed that all the issues - shape, panels etc. - quoted on the KH brand new 1/48th Mirage F-1B kit are those quoted in the A. V. Khaustova's detailed plans published in the famous Ukrainian magazine Aviatsiya i Vremia n°2005-4 and widely available on Internet: http://lib.rus.ec/i/54/216354/pic_125.jpg

What an odd coincidence...

It was on their Facebook page as of about 4:00 a.m. US West Coast time. My old brain won't allow me to figure out how to link it here.

Who's "their"?

The official voices of KH: Song or Kagnew (Glen Coleman)?

Link between Kitmaniac.com and KH?

Now back to facts.

In a ARC Jet Modeling forum thread dated October 1st, 2012 and entitled "Forgotten Foxbats?"

Answering to the forumers request for a new 1/48th MiG-25 "Foxbat" kit, M. Song posted, on October 2nd, 2012, the following message:

Let me try.

If you add to this first Song's message another one, dated December 5th, 2012 ( also in the ARC jet Modeling forum), in which he explains that his next kit project - after the JAS-39 Gripen - will be of a Russian aircraft, you can conclude that this aircraft might be a "Foxbat" and not a "Fitter".

Wait and see.
