1/48 P-51D Mustang, 'Duchess Arlene' 100th FS, 332nd FG.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Here is my entry for this GB: Tamiya's lovely P-51D Mustang. I will be marking this as 'Duchess Arlene' flown by Capt. Robert W. Williams of the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, the 'Tuskegee Airmen'

Williams was one of the first American fighter pilots to down a ME262 in 1944 amongst other and went on to complete 50 missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

The kit:

Will be OOB except for a True Details resin seat.

Brief update. Cockpit has been painted:

And installed:

The ease of building really is quite something! I rank this Number 2 in my 'best fitting kits' list, just behind the 1/48 Revell F-15E

Next up is to add the wings and stabilisers.

Slight delay in updating this with holidays and other builds going on, but the assembly is complete and i've added my primitive masking to the cockpit before priming:

Will hopefully get the paint on in the next few days.

Long overdue update....majority of the painting has been done and the kit is now ready for varnish and decals. The main paint is from a tamiya rattle can (AS-12 Bare Metal Silver) with the red sections brush painted.

Decals are up next followed by some a light panel line wash and a small bit of weathering.

More to come.

Gloss went on last night so managed to get the decals on this morning, followed by another coat of varnish. Once dry, I added a light panel line wash:

Wiped it off 30 mins later and added all the sub assembles...she's done!

Finished article in the gallery and RFI here

Thanks to all who followed/commented.
