Shar2
BRDM-2 for Trumpeter E35-157ET Models 1:35 Its rather interesting reviewing this new set from ET Models so soon after doing the same for the Eduard set for the new Trumpeter BRDM-2 (Early). The way each company approaches a subject is different enough to be able to write quite different reviews. ET Models set is in their now standard packaging, inside of which two smallish sheets of relief etched brass and a small zip lock bag with two resin and one turned brass parts. The instructions are on two pages of double sided A4 green paper, which although a bit of an odd colour the printing is very clear and easy to read. The build starts with the construction of several sub-assemblies such as the waterjet tunnel which has a new grating to the front and deflectors/rudders in their mounting frame to the rear. The four headlights have new clips, supports, and a cover to the outside lamps. There several new items not in the BRDM-2 kit which arent identified such as what looks like a new lamp or siren. The foredeck hatch receives new hinges whilst the tools get new clamps or in the case of the shovel a complete blade and handle socket. There are new gunports and forward hatches for the driver and co-driver the hinges of which require the modeller to use plastic rod for the hinge pins, as do the hinges for the entrance hatches. The cable reel on the left hand side is completely replaced by etch and plastic rod. New exhaust covers are also provided in the set and the resin aerial is fitted with etched base parts. On the turret, there is a new gun mantle, gun support and clamps along with new optical ports on top of the turret. The kit 14.5mm machine gun is replaced with a resin part and the 7.92mm co-axial machine gun barrel is replaced with the brass part. The last parts to be used in the set are the optional style windescreen wipers and the headlight guards. Conclusion Although the set isnt exactly large it is full of very small and fine detail which may be a bit awkward for a less experienced modeller, but with patience and care these parts can make quite a difference to the finished model.
