Manchester - Revell Lanc with Paragon Conversion

Recommended Posts

Building them side by side has been generally good.

A lot of the Revell detail bits are now in my Airfix Lanc.

They were each painted at the same time, and decalled.

The only bit that wasn't good was the actual Manchester conversion.

I'm very wary of the health risks with resin, so tended to delay - and there was a lot with resin to cut and file, then an absolute ton of seams to match.

Obviously at this time the Airfix project was just waiting.

THey're both in my airing cupboard right now, paint drying and awaiting undercarriage.

Great build! It is something compleatly different than the mainstream.

Maybee there should be a manufaturer that could make one in 1/72 and 1/48. (take notes Airfix)

But till that time I wished that I could lay my hands on a Paragon conversion in 1/48.

Cheers,

Noooo - please no  , not after the trouble I've gone to for a Manchester :banghead: .

Although most of the parts for this project have been in my stash for some years, it was grey side codes from Hepster made this project a goer - so thanks again to Rob  . Finding that EM-F didn't need a Sunderland dorsal turret really lit the fuse.

Sharing the interesting stories about L7300 has just added to the priviledge of building an Avro Manchester.

Seriously, either Revell or Airfix could do exactly that, offering an additional kit of parts, like the Airfix Valiant tanker/PR set.

New set of wings and engines turrets, new set of tails, and decals for Manchesters Mk1 and Mk 1a.

Plastic would be a HUGE improvement over resin.

Today I found a great photo of the engine on a Manchester, showing the exhausts.
It's on Wikipedia and blows up really well. Upper exhausts taper outwards, while lowers are just covers. Uppers have a straight camo demarcation.

So that's what I've done - fitted and painted. Also fitted the radio mast.

Looking great... but one problem sticks out rather... BOTH engines are running... pretty rare

It's not on fire either... :bangin::frantic:

I can't wait for this to be finished, it's looking good so far.

Exhaust stains; from a Vulture? I thought it was such a clean-burning (with emphasis on burning) engine. Okay, okay, enough Vulture jokes. Your Manchester (Manch, Manc?) looks very nice. It may have had lousy engines, but it was a sharp-looking aeroplane, especially with the three fins.

Regards,

Jason

Taking this to Cosford this weekend.

And now something you didn't think would happen - a flying Manchester! :pilot:

And that's me bowing out :bye: it's been a blast.

Forgot to mention.

I did bump into Mike McEvoy at Cosford, so I reminded him of the sale - and escorted him to IPMS Gloucester stand where the finished model was parked. His appreciation added a little more to the project.
