Man! That's a superb and beautiful collection there with some very unusual planes. :worthy:

I might have to swing from Crab stuff and try some of these. Mind you, I do have a 1/48 vacform Barracuda.... :hmmm:

That's quite a collection you have, a couple of which I've never even heard of.

Just one question for an ignoramus like myself, what are the propeller type appendages on some of the fuselage sides?

gazza l

Yeah, I was a bit baffled by them too, curious looking things, what are they for?

Hiya Gazza,

The propellers are the wind driven winches for target tugs. They were rotated forwards when the winch cable had to be wound out or back in again and the airflow pushed the propeller around to provide power.

Hope that helps,

Tony O

I was just wondering:

"Is there any truth in the rumour that you like Fleet Air Arm aircraft?"

Selwyn

No I don`t know where you got that idea from!

That's a fantastic collection there, my fav is the Hunter, such a beautiful plane!

That Gannet looks really familiar for some reason... has it been in any magazines or anything??

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Hiya Daz,

Glad you like the models, although the Gannet was supposed to be for a magazine article in MAM it never went in, however some of the other stuff has been in articles. You may have seen it here on Britmodeller a few years ago?

All the best

Good grief - what a collection. I love FAA aircraft as well, and choosing a favourite from these is next to impossible - maybe the Expeditor by a whisker? What an inspiration for the long weekend (Australia Day tomorrow).

Another cracking selection Tony. Particularily like the Maryland, Baltimore and Martinet. Was the Magna Martinet a challenge? I have one in the stash but Magna get a lot of flak for various reasons as I'm sure you are aware!

Mick

PS: BTW, why does an ex Para have such an interest in the FAA?

Glad you like them Mick and thanks for saying so. To be honest I find Magna kits to be easier than many injection moulded kits to build although there can be quite a lot of air bubbles or surface glitches if you are very unlucky. I`m currently building the Magna Sea Prince and it has been a very unlucky kit, although I still cannot decide whether it is my fault or not! Just give it a try, you`ll either love it or loathe it,...a bit like Bovril,...but who else is going to release a 1/48th Sea Prince, Sea Devon or Martinet?

Last night my Martinet was squashed when a shelf fell on top if it,....so I may be saving up for another to replace it if I cannot mend it!

Why does an ex Para like the Fleet Air Arm so much,......its a long story really but I was extracted from a poor situation by a Junglie Sea King crew who just turned up out of nowhere when they heard on their radio that we were in trouble god bless em, ...plus the Junglies were always flying after the RAF were grounded for various reasons (mostly because the rule books dictated as such- no fault of the crews themselves and I`ve lots of admiration for the RAF too!). I just admire the `can do attitude' of the navy fliers and the more I learned about it the more the interest grew, especially as I have always loved aviation anyway. Unfortunately I was never clever enough to fly a military aeroplane but I was thick enough to jump out of one!!

All the best

Hi Tony, love 'em all but especially the folowing, the Skua because the TT scheme gives it a bit of caracter, then the Barracuda looks like it want's to go and do a job and maybe come back safey. Then the Rapide always a classic in silver, the Gannet my first squardon 848 'whilst doing my time', the Vampire just a classic jet as with the Hunter, then both the Hoverfly and Wasp. I think we need a 32nd, Wasp if only to do the subject justice!

Many thanks for sharing you extensive collection. Congratulations.

Cheers Colin,

Oh I second the 1/32nd Wasp as well as a Scout but I don`t think that it will ever happen,.......unless you are offering?

Thanks to everybody else for your very kind comments too,

All the best
