Radleigh
Hi guys, welcome to my build.Airfix's Ju-88 A4 which will be done in winter camo. I may add some aftermarket, I haven't decided. Are the kit decals OK to do a winter scheme or shall I get different ones? Was just going to use the A6+HH, not all the other markings.Sprue shots: (Sorry I don't have a box shot, it got cut up and recycled into bulkhead templates!)Ju-88 by Rainbow 1984, on FlickrJu-88 by Rainbow 1984, on FlickrJu-88 by Rainbow 1984, on FlickrJu-88 by Rainbow 1984, on FlickrRoll on the 19th! vppelt68
Hi I´m in no way an expert of this unit, but as I have the same kit I have found some information. Airfix made a mistake with the kit decals as A6+ stands for Aufklärungsgruppe 120, not KG30. That should be 4D+ as in the new Revell kit. 1.(F)/120 was mostly stationed in Stavanger-Sola in Norway for most of the war. That location gives them mostly recon/anti-shipping missions over the North Sea so I´d say they were seldom painted in a snow scheme. Hope this helps? If I have written something awfully wrong I hope someone will correct me, please! V-P
Radleigh
Morning VP, that makes sense. I did read that to somewhere about the mistake. I'll do some reserch today in what markings I can use!
vppelt68
You could stick with the KG30? I´ve read a book written by a KG30 Junkers- pilot Peter-Wilhelm Stahl; "Kampfflieger zwischen Eismeer und Sahara. In meinem Fall: Ju 88". Highly recommended! He fought at least one winter on the eastern front and has his planes codes usually mentioned in text too. At least his "Cesar" 4D+CP that he used in Finland, is available by Techmod http://www.techmod.pl/aviation-72/72139-junkers-ju-88a-4. That´s in green/green but with black belly. Radleigh
Cheers VP. I'm looking at doing the 'white squiggly lines' all over the camo for the winter scheme? Ideally I want this to be as authentic as possible. Could I still stick to a KG30 machine ? Edit, Just found some decals which work so will be going for them! Cheers. Radleigh
Just ordered Quickboost exhausts, decals and Pavla wheels. Will post photos once it all arrives! Edited January 14, 2013 by Radleigh
Radleigh
Just been looking at this kit as I want to rescribe it (hunting for my scribing tool and I've lost it! ), test fitting the clear parts with a taped fuselage and it's really showing it's age. Still, it shall be fun! (Hopefully! )
CliffB
Looking forward to seeing this old 'classic' being given the full treatment! Cliff
Radleigh
Cheers Cliff, Might be ordering some more AM yet, just unsure what as I don't want to go to 'OTT'. Well..I found my scriber (it was hiding in my Learjet box!) and also my rivet wheels for my Trumpeter riveter which I also lost, so after 2 hours of cleaning snow from my drive way (It's shared with my landlord) I come back into the warm and got cracking. Will get some photos up later!
Radleigh
Update time, due to the weather *sigh* I decided not to open work up yesterday and spent all morning clearing the snow with my neighbour, a tasty grilled breakfast and some model making! I've got quite a bit done, photos below show yesterdays work, but have done more since and will carry on through the day, Filling etc! (Note; the surface is alot smooter now) Overall view of the fuselage Airfix Ju-88 1/72 by Rainbow 1984, on Flickr Scratch built ariel - excuse the dust. Airfix Ju-88 1/72 by Rainbow 1984, on Flickr Overall view of the underside of the wing. All rivets have been removed on both wings and fuselage. Airfix Ju-88 1/72 by Rainbow 1984, on Flickr Poor fit gear doors, will be filled, scribed. Airfix Ju-88 1/72 by Rainbow 1984, on Flickr School boy error here ( ) I fitted the wheel part inside when dry fitting it all, taped the wings together. Went and had dinner, come back thought it was all OK and glued it with Plastic weld, so it is well and truely together. The wrong part is fitted so I've had to make a little bracket and fit that up inside, once the gear legs are modded slightly it should still sit at the desired height too. Also thinned out where the open door sits as I've decided to get AM ones. Thats it for now though, more tonight all being well. Have a good day!
Max Headroom
Keep up the good work. Outline wise how is this kit as it seems to have been around forever. Even 20+ years ago Ray Rimmell kit bashed it with an Italeri 188. Trevor
Radleigh
Looks like a Ju-88 to me, unsure how bad it is. Fit is bad but that's to be expected, Fun though!

Radleigh
I wasn't born! The reason I chose this kit was I had one when I was a nipper so I wanted to redo one and actually finish it etc! Still got my old original box up in my dads loft.

vppelt68
You´re still one million rivets short per wing, compared to a Frog Ju-88 :-b V-P
