Rickpadwick1801
Hi everyone, Thanks for all of the comments on my WIP thread for this ship, however with the exception of a small amount of paint on the remainder of the airwing (4 more Harriers and the 4 helicopters), she is now complete. As this is my first large scale warship model that I have completed, I am extremely happy with the way she came out, especially in light of all of the problems I had with the first kit I received. I hope you like the model just as much as I have enjoyed making it. Edited January 13, 2013 by Rickpadwick1801

Hats off to you for building this and considering its only the third kit youve built I think you deserve a icon ! Andy Thanks Andy, It is the 3rd Airfix kit that I've built, however I have built 4 other models, a Revell RMS Titanic, a Revell Space Shuttle Discovery, a Revell B-1B Lancer and an AMT USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A which unfortunately needs some repair work doing to it. This link is to the introduction post I made when I joined the forum and shows pictures of all the models I had completed up till that point : http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234928144&hl= As soon as it turns up, I will be working on one of the Airfix Type 45 destroyers as my next Royal Navy project (a build thread will quickly follow). Cheers, Rick

rich2010
Nice job. I have this kit and am contemplating leaving the flightdeck unglued to allow me to remove it and show detail/activity in the hanger area. With your experience of the kit is that possible? Also, why do the instructions have a two-tone flightdeck? When Airfix measured her up did she just come out of refit or something? I can't remember seeing Lusty have a different colour ramp. I also thought that the runway centreline was black in its entirety. One last thing is there an 'L' decal that I've missed. That said, it looks a great kit that you've done great things with. Thanks very much. There isn't much in the way of detail in the hangar area, just some bulkheads with the two flight deck lifts with the lift mechanisms. I have posted a picture below to show the hull from my first build of this kit (prior to finding the faults with the hull) showing the area under the flight deck. I don't know why the painting instructions have a two-tone flight deck, but I haven't seen any decals that I've missed. I have found a picture of HMS Invincible with a two-tone flight deck, but not a picture of Illustrious with the two tone deck. I will be making a start on my next projects (the 1:32 Revell Red Arrows Hawk and a Type 45 destroyer) in a couple of days for the Red Arrows Hawk and as it arrives for the Type 45 gift set from Wonderland Models via Airfix. I will also be finishing up the Airfix Vulcan I have got on the go. So busy busy.
