When we first came to South Africa I worked with a guy who had been an observer in the SAAF flying in N Africa and Italy. He related a story of the double door on the crew hatch, where during one sortie the aircraft banked and he heard clink, clink. On opening the inner hatch he discovered the groundcrew had put to bottles of beer in there to chill during the flight, needles to say they drank them and then refilled the bottles and put the caps back on.
