Sundown Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi everyone, After deciding NOT to enter another group build, here is my entry for this GB! Revell's 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle, box has seen better days! :\ The contents : The aftermarket, will probably add some Aires exhausts at a later date : I'm using Afterburner Decals 48045 Lakenheath Mudhens for the markings. Cheers, Sean
DaveJL Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Nice one Sean! Was possibly going to enter a Lakenheath jet for my 3rd entry. Any idea on the jet you're doing? Dave
Sundown Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 So many to choose from! At the moment my favourite is this one: F-15E-61-MC, 97-0221, 492 FS/48 FW, Sqn CC's aircraft, 2006/7 It has all the bomb markings on the nose from it's deployment in Afghanstan. Sean
DaveJL Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Same here! The sheet is too big just to build one jet Dave
Marlin Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 This looks interesting. Good luck with your build. /Bosse
AndyC Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Good choice - I'm thinking of doing the same kit but no AM and a US-based bird. It's a good kit - I have built one before - but it has since gone to kit heaven
Sundown Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Best of luck chaps! Managed to get a couple of hours in this morning... Removed all 16 pin marks from the intakes. Assembled the intakes, applied putty, sanded smooth and I now have two completed trunks. Will hopefully get some paint on them this evening. Fitted these to the fuselage. Removed the detail from kits sidewalls and sanded the cockpit to fit. The cockpit detail OOB is actually pretty good and you don't really need an aftermarket cockpit. That said, I've got one so I'm gonna use it! For me, that's a very productive 3 hours! Thanks for looking, Sean Edited January 12, 2013 by Sundown
Filler Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Nice looking work on the intakes Sean. I'm intrigued as to how you'll be painting the insides. As I keep mentioning, I'm new to this hobby and one of the many things I haven't figured out yet is the best order for cementing, filling, masking, priming and painting the inside of intakes. I'll check back this evening to see if you have got some paint on them. Keep up the good work!
mark73 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Will follow this with interest, have just gotten one off evilbay for 30 euro including postage and the eduard interior and exterior sets... bargain in my book... I agree the kit pit is pretty good straight out of the box, nice work.
SaintsPhil Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Looking good so far! It's almost a shame not to use the kit pit sometimes, but the as you say, if you've got the resin it's a no brainer!! One good method for the trunking is to seal one end and poor the paint down into the trunking, slosh it about to cover the sides then tip it back out! I'm sure Sean will report back on his method though! Phil
DaveJL Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Nice work. I plan to hide the intakes on mine with the easy old FOD covers Dave 1
Sundown Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks for the comments chaps! I applied a coat of primer to the intakes yesterday evening but to my dismay it reacted with the filler which proceeded to peel away! I'm not sure what happened but they could've easily ended up in the bin! Fortunately I thought better of it and left them to dry. I will have a look and see what can be done when I get home this evening. Cheers, Sean
