Starfighter
Hi everyone, This has probably been posted before, but I'm about to start building a 1/32 Lightning F3 in 111 squadron markings. Would I be correct in assuming that the Lightning F3's of this period had black rather than grey cockpits? I'm sure I read that this was the case somewhere, but i'd like to be sure before getting out the old hairy stick!
Fmk.6john
All F.3 Lightnings had grey cockpits. HTH, John.
Scarlet
All F.3 Lightnings had grey cockpits. Second that.
Wez
As the others have said, grey is correct for the F.3, this coincides with the introduction of the IFICS instrumentation (which was fitted to F3/3A/6 and T.5). All marks prior to that (F.1/1A/2/T.4) had black cockpits. The only aircraft I'm unsure of is the F.2A, I'm not sure whether the cockpits were totally or partially repainted during the conversion, I don't believe these aircraft received the full IFICS instrumentation or only bits of it, hopefully somebody else will be able to provide confirmation. Starfighter
Thanks for the info, everyone, that's most helpful. I presume it would be similar to medium sea grey, or dark gull grey as used on US aircraft?
Julien
I think you could use Dark Gull Grey and get away with it. Check out our Lightning Walkaround for some cockpit pics: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72304 Julien
