wkennerley Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Hi All This will be my build, Revell 1/12 Harley Davidson Electra Glide - To be build OOB, I may change the colour of the bike though
heloman1 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Look out, 'hear' come the Harleys, I'm looking foward to this build, I don't think I've ever seen one built. Good luck. Colin
wkennerley Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 Yes I will get back to this, I was a bit put off by the frame being a bit wonky - I will have another look at it later and see what I can do about it - Not the best frame I have seen from Revell, the split is in a rather poor place think - Anyway keep watching wayne
D1fuN0 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Hi Wayne This is actually a nice kit. I built the Matchbox one a few years ago, ok a lot of a few, but good memories seeing it again. Shall be following with interest from the dark continent. Steve
krow113 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 I bookmarked your build , please feel free to ask me any technical/accuracy issues for Harleys. Good Luck!
wkennerley Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Ah cool thanks krow113 - One question i do have is what colours did this bike, 1970?, come in? I don't like the colour on the box and was thinking more along the lines of black or dark blue. Other than that my plan is to build the bike as is really  Wayne
krow113 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) 1970 was the first year of the stator charging system , I actually had a '70 it was my first hog. I got it chopped though... As for color there was not a lot of the factory custom paint we see now, so black or blue would do it. Cant go wrong with black on a Harley. Â I pulled out my Matchbox edition of this kit, I will go over it to see if there are any glaring inaccuracy's ,but at first blush it looks good. Strip off that gaudy chrome would be my first suggestion. Most of the plated pieces were not plated on the bike. Â Â When I do my frames I use clamps and straight edges or square tubing to keep things lined up and for reference points, the frames are the heart of the bike so if it starts out crooked it may end up looking a little off. krow113 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Thinking about the year of this bike I did notice the front disc brake. This became available on Harleys FLH series in 1972 , The 1970 Fl's had a drum brake on the front . I dunno how accurate you wanna be.....
wkennerley Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 I am not sure of the actual year of the kit bike, 1970 was a bit of a guess. I can't see anything on the box or instructions with a date, so I am happy to leave as is. Â Wayne
wkennerley Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 A bit of progress, I have primered up most pasrts, am busy de chroming the chromed stuff and also busy dry brushing the finish to the engine etc - Pics hopefully follow soon Wayne
wkennerley Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Nope its gone into the cupboard unfortunately, too much other stuff going on and I just cannot get myself into modelling again as yet Wayne
Karl Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I also made the Matchbox issue of this kit; I used to love making these type of bike kits - I had a much bigger Police Harley but I've no idea what make it was. Look forward to see this one when its built! Karl
krow113 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Ahhhh! Too bad! You can always dump the luggage and make a strip down, a way cooler bike.
wkennerley Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 Mmm that sounds a good idea, is it as simple as just not fitting the luggage? Should I remove the fairing too? Wayne
krow113 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) Yes lose the fairing as well. There will be work to do on the forks , and a big pile of ugly brackets left over. You will have to make a seat as well, a simple spoon shape bent to fit the frame/fender would work. Google 'decker strip down' or the like to find images. Actually 'shovelhead ' will bring up images way cooler than the luggage wagon. Edited April 5, 2013 by krow113
