Peter Marshall Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share Posted January 1, 2013 Some more done on the P-39 - first the radiator grilles in the wing roots Then the trickiest bit of this kit - the wing. With some fettling and gluing in sections it does fit, though you need to thin the trailing edges. Just some Mr Dissolved Putty and Mr Surfacer along the joints which is now curing. Peter Marshall Posted January 2, 2013 Author Share Posted January 2, 2013 Today's work on the Aircobra - first adding the rad shutters Then the canopy masks, and fitting the canopy. The canopy is tacked in place with GS Hypo Cement, then ran some gator glue around the edges to fill in the gaps and strengthen everything. Peter Marshall Posted January 3, 2013 Author Share Posted January 3, 2013 Got a little bit done now, but mainly i'm waiting for my paints to arrive :-( Then i've done the insides of the doors Then glued the doors in place with some GS Hypo so I can remove them later, and sprayed the frames interiour green. Peter Marshall Posted January 4, 2013 Author Share Posted January 4, 2013 Paint arrived this morning, so onwards with the Aircobra - first mask up the wheel wells with Blu-tak Then a coat of primer, a little sanding, more primer and then sand back and rub down with a tac cloth Finally sprayed the light blue, gradually adding a little white. Quick question if I may, I notice that you've used blue tape to mask the lines, and the wide Tamiya tape for the rest of the area. Is there a specific reason, different tape qualities perhaps, or it it just the way you do it? I just ask because only ever use the thin Tamiya tape for masking. Odd. Peter Marshall Posted January 6, 2013 Author Share Posted January 6, 2013 To answer your question, the blue tape is Jammy Dog tape, it's just that I had some already cut, and being narrower it's easier to get around tight curves. Peter Marshall Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Started the weathering today - first off a MIG Brown wash Then assembled and fitted the Undercarraige Fitted the prop, sprayed the exhaust staining, and started post shading Then started spraying dust / dirt on the surface then some heavily thinned Tamiya Buff Finally sprayed a matt varnish coat over the top Peter Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
