Humbrol Dark Earth

Quick question folks. Does Humbrol's Dark Earth 29 in the enamel range still darken when you gloss it?

I remember years ago coming across this problem, (EDSG/DSG were the same). When matted it didn't lighten up again.

I will be hand brushing my Munich Era Fury I for KUTA V. Other readily available colours from Modelzone look 'wrong'.

Yes, it does darken noticeably with a coat of Future. It also lightens up ever so slightly with a coat of satin, but not much. To get it to lighten up to its original sheen, I suspect it would need a dead matte coat, which does not look completely right on most subjects.

Try adding a few drops of matt white. I've used that method for years. The initial coat will look a bit too light but,it should darken to the right shade once varnished. Takes a bit of practice to get the mix right but, it's worked for me

Both WEM and Xtracolour produce this colour, as do Pheonix (Precision) Paints. WEM are semi-gloss, Xtracolour gloss to avoid the need for protective varnishes before applying transfers.

I've used the Xtracolour and this is good, as Graham says, already gloss. I moved to Xtracrylics, but find these are darker than the enamels, so I add some white to lighten them up.
