SaintsPhil
Afternoon all, Simple enough question, how many did they carry? Just 3 underneath or 5, 2 on outer rails of the inner pylons as well? TIA Phil
Muzz
Hi Phil There's two photo's in the Model Alliance Op Telic publication showing aircraft armed with 5 missiles and sidewinders in the inboard rails, one of these aircraft is an unidentified GR4A the other is also unidentified but named as being from 9 Sqn. There's also a few photos of aircraft carrying empty outboard pylons, so probably at some point been armed with 5 Alarms, these aircraft have the tail codes AB, B and TK. There's also plenty side profiles of aircraft showing nose art etc with Alarm mission markings. Sent your codes out yesterday so maybe get them tomorrow. Muzz
AB would appear to be ZA607, with 'Delightful Debs' artwork and B is a 13 Sqn GR4A, ZG707 with B.A.B.S artwork on the nose.
Jabba
The photos in that book show the Tornados being fitted with either 4 or 2 Alarm missiles, with the 4 fit being 2 under the fuselage on the outer shoulder pylonswith the other 2 on the outboard rail of the inner wing pylons, with the 2 fit being under the fuselage as described before. Muzz
The GR4 in the top photo of page 5 is definitely carrying 5, looks like its taxing out off a sun shelter. When I look again at the photo on page 14, it is carrying 4.
SaintsPhil
Thanks guys, I saw the pics in the book, but couldn't quite make it all out. I think I'll just go with 5 anyway, makes for an interesting load! Cheers for the decals Murray I'll let you know when they arrive! Phil

Jabba
The GR4 in the top photo of page 5 is definitely carrying 5, looks like its taxing out off a sun shelter. When I look again at the photo on page 14, it is carrying 4. The caption for that photo states that the aircraft is carrying 4 missiles and where they are being carried. Two under the fuselage on the outer stations and one on each outboard rails of the inboard wing pylon. It also says that it is an aircraft from 9 Sqn, but does not say which one. SaintsPhil
That's a cracking shot cheers, I don't think they went with all 9 on ops, due to the lack of fuel but it looks impressive!
Gerard
There are a couple of classic photos of a couple of GR1's with 9 x Alarms on. Don't think that load would have been used expect for short-range missions in the opening hours of WW3. Regards, Gerard
