Bladerunners Wanted

Recommended Posts

Time to start recruiting.

I dragged out my special edition tin & watched it the film again last night.

(The Directors cut, since you're wondering. Though I still prefer the version with the voiceover)

Anyhoo, We are, according to the film, 3 years & a few weeks from the incept date of Roy Batty.

Seems to me that real life is lagging behind Sci Fi.

Someone out there in Scientist land needs to pull up his socks!

Though I for one won't be sorry if we don't see replicants.

Interesting comment re the voiceover, I thought i must have been the only person who thought the original version with the voicover was by far the best version!!

Likewise I think the voiceover adds a lot to the movie and I much prefer the original version. However, that said I much prefer the Philip K Dick story to that of the film, the visuals and style of the film are outstanding but the story really suffered the transition to the big screen.

Cheers,

Stuart

Agreed, love the film (and in particular the brilliant soundtrack) but much prefer the proper book version...with the sheep lol!

Would not relish the prospect of incepted Roy and Nora Batty !!! ( though I'm not so sure that Nora ever saw attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion or C beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate).

Got to agree that whilst the original film, complete with voice over was a great cinematic achievement for its day the book is sublime, but isn't that usually the case ? It being quite difficult to encapsulate the 'feel' of a story on this scale unless written for the movies, some manage though.

Pete they're already here mate.....according to David 'living in the matrix' Icke !!!

Wasn't the VoiceOver added post production to 'explain' the story because preview audiences were confused?

Never read the book (yet) but the visuals are stunning and Vangelis' soundtrack is sublime.

Am I the only one to think that the street scenes early on in Star Wars Ep2 are a pale echo of the streets in Bladerunner?

BTW what's with the origami?

OK, we can have Girly Replicants. But only good looking ones.

The Nora Batty mould has to go! (What have you been drinking/sniffing, Herr General?)

As for the origami....

There is/was a series of books by K W Jeter? that expanded on the film version of the story.

Deckard himself may be a Replicant. As are all of the Bladerunners.

At one point, if I remember correctly, he watches a trainload of rejected replicants go by,

Some look like him.

The Unicorn may be part of an implanted memory/dream?

Erm, anyone else?

As for the music...

VanGelis performed some epic stuff. This is one of his best. It's certainly on my Mp3 player & never gets boring.

All the best, Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year

I have never seent he version with the voice-over, but I have read some reviews of it, and it doesn't sound as good. Might have to watch it one day though.

I think the unicorn was supposed to be a hint that Gaff (Edward J Olmos) knew about Deckards dream, thus suggesting that Deckard is in fact a replicant, because someone knows details about his dreams. A bit like the implanted memories that Rachael has.

There are plenty of other hints at Deckard being a replicant, see here, here and here if you want some interesting stuff to read...

Yes, Deckard is Gaff. That is interesting.

Still think it could goeither way.

I'll have to dig out my tin & check the deleted scenes/Directors interviews again.

Has any other movie (Wizard of Oz?) caused so many questions to be asked?

Yes but that usually runs along the lines of 'how could Diddly Squatt produce such a truly awful movie full of sloppy plot holes and poor characterization, a crew that lack any empathy, intelligence or depth, woman running around post op seemingly immune to pain, not to mention the hilarious kamikaze jobbie at the end, coz they love the captain...who can't fly a damn anyway ???, way over the top soundtrack, illogical decision making, etc, etc, etc.......awful doesn't cover it'................kind of thing !

it is worth watching if youre a complete Alienhead, but then again, thats what they said about Alien v Predator...

Find this thing about making prequels to movies that were released 30 odd years ago a bit odd....

However, Bladerunner and the sheep novel are what kicked me of 'Star Trek' type sci fi, into the realm of 'real' sci fi..
