Hi Peter:

I am thinking that I have to work a little harder to earn enough money for those light planes you announced here, the P 26 is a MUST, also the Cessnas and all other lovely light planes, don't forget the Cessna 120, 140, 170 and 195.....those are the ones I need to fill the gaps in my cessna collection.

Cheers from Guatemala!!!!!!

Thanks to AZ for filling a much needed gap in modeling. I too am much looking forward to the Cessnas along with the Piper J-3. I have been a private pilot for over 30 years and I gave up model building some time ago due to the limited availability of lightplane models. Don't get me wrong ... I love the warbirds but I have a shelf and closet full of them , it will be refreshing to build a model of a plane that I have flown or owned in the past ! Peter I hope you would also consider the Cessna 182 and 206 along with some light twins like the Beech Baron , also vintage planes like the Ercoupe , Navion , Aeronca Champ , Forgive my rambling but have just found a renewed interest in model building ! :pilot:

Hi Peter and co,

I look forward to the Cessna 180/185 kits! Also very intriguing for me is the Hughes OH-6a Cayuse announced and shown at Nuremberg...is it possible a boxing of the civil Hughes 500C will be produced? I think it could do quite well if done right, eg with the taller skids.

Another idea for a possible kit is the de Havilland Venom as we have not seen an injection-moulded kit of the type for many, many years.

Another idea for a possible kit is the de Havilland Venom as we have not seen an injection-moulded kit of the type for many, many years.

Hannants show a 1/72 Venom FAW.21 (with Blue Jay missiles) on their Future Release list, from Cyber Hobby.

It must be close to release - Hannants already have a price on their site, although no box art image yet.

Ther are no published drawings of the Merlin Athena. There were drawings of the Mamba Athena but these are useless as a base because the canopy, tail end, nose and the wing position are different to the Merlin variant and the wing is over two feet further forwards.

Having said that I've been working on and off for a few years on a set of drawings by working from some of the few surviving documents including the Avro sales brouchure and Air Publication, all privately held. There are three views around but they are all inaccurate. Even the Merlin Athena managed two different cockpits and two tail shapes.

Peter,

Regarding the P-26 International kit and the option 1 markings shown. This was the delivery scheme and the markings are those of the Canton Air Force not the Chinese Air Force. The Boeing 281 was used by the 2nd Squadron of the Canton Air Force together with Armstrong-Whitworth 16 fighters. They arrived just about at the start of a period of very complex localised civil war and were involved in at least three defection flights from Canton to the Nanking regime. After Canton's independence ended in July 1936 the Boeings were taken over by the Chinese Air Force (of Chiang Kai Shek's Nationalist - Kuomintang - regime) and served in the 17th Squadron, 3rd Air Group during the defence of Nanking against the Japanese.

In Nationalist service the aircraft were re-painted in the standard scheme of overall dark olive green with large four digit white squadron numbers painted on the fuselage - 17**. The first two digits identified the squadron and the last two the individual aircraft. The Chinese Air Force serial number P-**** was painted on the fin in small white letters and numbers. The national insignia reverted to the Kuomintang "white sun in blue sky" roundels without the outer red border used by Canton and with the blue and white striped rudder.

Confusion over the scheme has been caused in part by the Squadron Signal 'Mini' on the type which contained several photographs showing the grey-painted 281s in Canton Air Force service at Shoukouling but captioned them as showing aircraft in 'Chinese Air Force' service at 'Chuying'. Several of the Canton Air Force pilots who later served in the Chinese Air Force flying Gloster Gladiators were private pilot's licence volunteers from the USA of Chinese-Cantonese extraction.
