1/48 OA-10A Thunderbolt II callsign Sandy

Recommended Posts

The fuselage sides have a slight line up problem, probably why Eduard made these hatches to cover them..
Hawg127.jpg

Drilled some holes and covered them with mesh..
Hawg128.jpg

slimelights on the side are present but labelled 150 iso 17..
Hawg129.jpg

Eduard made two similar slimelights, but that's wrong. Crossdelta is shaped differently, so..
Hawg131.jpg

out with the side cutters..
Hawg132.jpg

still stuff missing..
Hawg130.jpg

slimelights, antenna base, missing exhaust (not one boxing has them strangely enough), antenna, covert lights and another base for a nav light..

After a month of inactivity due to everything else needed to be done.. some progress.

The Italeri exhausts weathered..

Hawg134.jpg

The fan installed and some masking started with some kabuki tape..

Hawg135.jpg

fixed the Italeri exhausts..

Hawg136.jpg

not a perfect fit for Sierra Hotel Models intakes..

Hawg137.jpg

to have a little more flesh to sand things smooth later..

Hawg138.jpg

Hawg139.jpg

just a little filler required..

Thanks! I do not get a lot of response on this build, so it's more than welcome.

The Pave Penny, Penny, Penny according HB, Revell and Italeri.

Hawg144.jpg

HB is too short and skinny..

Hawg146.jpg

Hawg147.jpg

Hawg152.jpg

Thanks for all the support gentlemen! Good to see you.. ;)

Engraved missing lines on the resin intakes..

Hawg155.jpg

something of a hinge?

Hawg154.jpg

reinforcement plates or part of the hinges?

Hawg157.jpg

primed and before they go on..

Hawg158.jpg

making sure everything will be glued at the right angles..

Hawg159.jpg

vertical stabs and my homemade jig so I can work easily on the underside..

Hawg160.jpg

I wanted to protect the canopy with an extra layer of Future, in stead it all melted off.. nothing damaged, something learned..

On the ground the slats were up. Remember both HB and Eduard didn't have the right idea about this, so I made some improvements..

Hawg162.jpg

nice see through, I think this is much better..

Hawg163.jpg

from below, the fence wraps around the leading edge..

Hawg167.jpg

Hawg165.jpg

with flap track rails..

Hawg166.jpg

after some Mr.Surfacer 1200..

Hawg168.jpg

With some old rockets I made the FMU-113 detonators..

Hawg164.jpg

Mk.82 with FMU-113 airburst, something like it at least..

Hawg169.jpg

Hawg178.jpg

turned into something like this..

Hawg179.jpg

rain/gun gas residue removal vents just in front of the windshield..

Hawg180.jpg

made a different and correct panelline, the forward part of the canopy hinges forward at this line..

Hawg182.jpg

This is truly one of the best 'in progress' builds I have ever read on this (or any other) site. The phrases "attention to detail", "incredible workmanship" and "museum quality" can all be overused in this hobby - but in reference to this project, I believe those phrases and so many more similar, cannot be used enough.

Simply inspiring.

Got the dust off this A-10 and continued some more. The windshield is a bit too narrow for the hull, but with just a little pressure this will fit and it was glued together with Tamiya's Extra Thin Cement for a good joint.

Everything is primed and in theory ready for a color coat of Mr.Color 307 and 308.

Italeri nose as testpiece for the refuel boom dents..

Hawg186.jpg

Hawg187.jpg

Hawg188.jpg

the 4th try.. windshield sides tinted on bare plastic worked for me, albeit slightly too yellow.. (this will not work once the canopy has been in Future btw)

windshield primed..
