Hello all,

I'm looking at buying a 1/35 Dragon King Tiger 'Henschel Turret' boxing. Does this particular kit include zimmerit?

I've never bought or built a Dragon kit before so i'm still a rookie! I was considering a Tamiya King Tiger but I know they lack the zimmerit.

Cheers

This one does;

BUT I can't say I was impressed with the zimmerit as it is too deep plus you will have to scrape it off areas such as where the exhaust stacks, tools etc fit which is a bugger of a job (I speak from experience). To be fair though this is Dragons first attempt at moulded zimm and it has been much improved since (such as the Jagdtiger).

If you don't want a KT with zimm you could look for this;

this one;

Thanks Andy. I was under the impression that all King Tigers had zimmerit or is this incorrect?

Nope cos zimmerit was't applied after a particular date in 1944 (I think november but I'd have to check my references). Good news for Kingtiger fans who hate zimmerit :D

Ah brilliant! Have you built the Dragon kit before? Is it nicer than the Tamiya offering? I like the look of the Henschel turret!

I built the one with the zimmerit when it was first released but got fed up with it, mainly due to the zimm and the amount of parts that Dragon included for particular time frames but with no hint of what goes where for which particular vehicle. What I AM planning to do though is use the detail bits from the Dragon kit and stick them on a Tamiya KT and put my own zimm on with Milliput, that way it won't be a total waste of the Dragon kit.

Generally though they build up just fine

There should be a fair few on a well known shopping site going for decent prices also have a word with Halifax Modellers World as they sometimes have bargains and are REALLY nice people to trade with

Andy is right that Zimmerit ceased to be applied in 1944. Factory applied Zimmerit ceased in Sept 44 but field units weren't ordered to stop applying it until October 44, source: King Tiger timeline.

It's a great source of information for King Tiger design modifications.

Mike.
