rob Posted November 27, 2012 Author Share Posted November 27, 2012 Well, I had a good search around last night, and found Paragon Conversions to convert the Airfix 48th scale FB VI to a bomber nose BIV and another Bomber nose conversion but with a full highball bomb bay Conversion as well.... Please note that new information has revealed that the late scheme with black undersides did not have silver outline to the underwing registration letters. They were simply Medium Sea Grey. Both the Liveries Unlimted and the Vingtor Decals letters have silver outline. It should be easy to cut this off, though. Nils Hi Nils thanks for that info, i'll trim the decals prior to fitment, i'm planning the black underside version G-AGGC, also i'm trying to find out if that particular a/c had the six exhaust stacks to the outer exhaust system, or the standard 5 stack system Rob... N.B. if this build goes well, I might even bring one of the 24th scale ones out of the stash afterwards......... IN De Havilland Mosquito: An Illustrated History, Volume 2 by Ian Thirsk there's a pic of G-AGGC which shows it has 5 stack exhausts to both sides, so that's that question answered... . Vingtor Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Although several of the books contain drawings of BOAC Mosquitos, these are more or less inaccurate. In our research for the decals decals and drawings we used Air Ministry directives found at the National Archives and the British Airways Heritage Centre, and a number of photos (among which several are not yet published). However, it appears that the directives were not followed 100%. They state that the underwing letters should be Medium Sea Grey with silver outlines. This was not complied though. A part from a BOAC Mosquito that was found at the Mosquito Museum earlier this year shows one of the underwing registration letters painted without the silver outline. Vingtor Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 We don't know which one, but we can rule out anyone but G-AGGC, G-AGGE and G-AGGH. I assume however that they were painted similarly. I would have joined this group build myself with a BOAC Mosquito, had I not built three of them already. G-AGGC in 1/48 scale (before any decals were available), and G-AGGG and G-AGFV in 1/72 scale, both with Vingtor decals. All with silver outline on the underwing letters ... Interior Green.... note to self, stir the bloody stuff properly or it takes about an ice age to dry........ The nacelles, and I know that most instructions say "interior silver" but i've seen several museum mossies and they have interior green in the u/c bays. A nice pair of shapely nacelles.....
