Revell Arado 196 and HPH catapult in 1/32

Morning, spurred into action by my super-rapid catapult build (about the time it takes to chip a droptank Dan :) ) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234929886

I've now started my Arado. For about the two bob it costs, what a great kit! So much so I have elected not to use the Eduard PE as the kit is mostly better.

If Eduard can print the bible on the head of a pin why can't they do plain matt grey? They seem to think Luftwaffe IPs are stripy gloss grey for some reason. Go figure.

Absolutely love this motor, the only AM is the lifting ring and mesh intake filters. It's a gem.

Just hollowed out the exhausts and carefully painted. Haven't weathered it yet. Did I mention that I like this kit?

Thanks for looking

Hobby Craft have this kit near me for £17, properly cheap for that you get! I'm really tempted..

If you can get this kit for 17 quid there really is nothing to think about. Buy it immediately, you won't be disappointed.

You'll be needing this

http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=169885

and this

http://master-model.pl/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=204&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56

and I wouldn't bother with anythging else, well paint masks maybe, and you're done.

Cheapest super detailed 1/32 on the block then.

good start mate - i must say, I really dislike etched brass for most things but those pre-printed IPs look really cool. Can't you just paint over the weird 'stripey' grey bit?

Will you be building it with wings folded or not? Will watch with interest as have one of these myself.

Cheers...

Folded. Thanks for all the encouragement chaps. Got everything riveted now with my trusty pounce wheel.

No photos and off to London tomorrow, so no updates until late next week I'm afraid.

Finished the catapult, thought, quite pleased with my weathering

Sh*t and Corruption. That's nice.

Best nip out and check to see if the badge is still on the front of your car Dan. 1/32 scale my bottom !!!

Still attached Chris, I was looking for the ///M badge on the Arado engine though

If you pump the priming handle another couple of times that thing should start!

Now you've got me wanting one. Wonder if there's space for one in the Ma.K. universe?

Just had a look at your fabulous catapult too.

Er,. so, we are looking for someone to pull down the firing handle.

Be sure to duck before the float goes through your head!

Well actually got some modelling done today. Pretty much finished the interior, ended up mixing my own RLM02 - why is this is this so hard to find?

8239745752_6d63913794_b.jpg

went with my painted IP in the end even after painting the Eduard one. Did steal the eduard control levers though. I find a blob of medium CA on each side of the flat disk makes a perectly round knob very consistently if you're careful - no Frankie Howerd remarks please.

The interior isn't accurate as it should really be plated over. There's all that nice framing in there and Revell have provided most of it so what the Hell, I've indulged myself. There isn't a whole lot of research material and refs around for this aircraft, so I'm not beating myself up and just going for what looks good and plausible.

Scratch built the mesh and grill on the rear of the oil cooler.

Here it all is mocked up.

And finally sat on the catapult, couldn't help myself (:

Nice work Nick, for the money you really can't get any better from a kit, those HGW set belts really are

the biz and really complement the kit details very well. Keep it up, i'm looking forward to seeing the next update.

Got some primer on the wings now as well as in receipt of my topdrawings/kagero reference book. These are great if you haven't seen them, they come with pull out 1/48 and 1/32 line drawings as well as decals for the schemes covered in the book in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32, all for 14 quid. Bargain. And you get swastikas which are missing of course from the Revell kit.
