Future changes to Humbrol paint sourcing?

At Telford I heard someone on a stand speaking to a visitor about Humbrol paints. Agreeing that the Chinese (?) sourced paint had been of very variable quality and saying that other sources were now coming into use.

Does anyone know 'owt of this.?

The implication was that things will be patchy but should improve over the next twelve months. Shoudl have stopped and asked but was in a rush, never got back to that.

It is highly probable thtat experts here will roll their eyes up and mutter about folk who don't keep up to date - if so, sorry.

Regards,

John B

This was asked a while back on the ATF and after asking Humbrol this is pretty much what they said - during the past year Humbrol have been changing suppliers and taking the opportunity to introduce new products and refine and improve existing ones e.g correcting paints and reverting them to original standards, BS, FS, RAL, RLM, MAP etc. Many of the new products are already produced in the UK e.g thinners, Decalfix, Glosscote, Satincote, Mattcote, Clear and the Acrylic Spray range.

I would imagine it's a process of using up existing supplies and stocks and the new suppliers taking over. The side of the tin should say which country it's made in, so we should see more stuff with "Made in the UK" appearing.

This news might be of interest:-

Humbrol, the U.K.’s No.1 modelling brand has moved over 60% of its model and craft manufacturing back to the UK from China.

Humbrol’s manufacturing has been moved back to the UK from China to improve supply, and ensure high quality standards continue to be met, but from an easier location nearer to the Margate Head Office. Humbrol Ltd. originally moved manufacturing from Hull to China in the early 2000’s.

Humbrol has traditionally supported the iconic model brand Airfix, and a number of products have already been introduced to strengthen this strategy. However under Hornby’s ownership it has broadened its target market with a diverse product range giving a new, wider focus towards model railways and war gaming. Re-branding its products also enables Humbrol to focus on the fast growing hobby and craft market, with new ranges already in development.
