jaw
I managed through Chris57's good offices to get a Matchbox Mosquito NF30 at SMW, to either make a post WW2 NF30 or NF36. But I see from all the references I have that they had flame dampers on the engine exhausts, whilst the kit does not. Does anybody know of any after market part to overcome this little issue or will I have to make one? If anybody has made them , I would appreciate guidance on how they made them. Cheers, John
Wez
Been banging on about this for years, you seldom see post war Mossie nightfighters without the dampers yet nobody seems to do them which is a pity (in spite of me asking really nicely). The trouble is I've never seen any plans for them to make them myself either, I believe the Special Hobby Sea Hornet nightfighter featured exhaust dampers that were if not the same were similar, you may be able to persuade somebody to cast you some replicas of those. rossm
The only place I've found some is in the old C Scale Sea Hornet / Sea Mosquito conversion where they are intended for the Sea Hornet night fighter. I don't know for sure they are the same but it seems a good bet. On that basis you could try asking any of the Sea Hornet NF manufacturers if they can sell you some separately, Ross
pyro-manic
1:72 scale? The Airfix Mosquitos come with flame dampers, though I don't know if they're different to the ones you require. I have a spare set if you want them?
stever219
The flame dampers on the AIrfix 1/72th Mosquito would not do for an NF30, sadly. The Airfix kit represents the earlier Merlins with single-stage superchargers as opposed to the two-stage Merlin used on the NF30.
jaw
Wez - I've had a look at the pictures of the SH Sea Hornet and yes the flame dampers do look identical to the ones on the NF36, although the NF30 are slightly different (at least from the photos/drawings that I have seen). Thinking about I think I may be able to cobble one together using Sprue and the unshrouded exhausts from the kit. At least that is the theory - the practice may well be entirely different!
