New Ship Related Releases

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what differences there will be between the Trumpeter/Merit 1:350 JFK and Kittihawk releases; or are they the same kit with different decals? Googling has shown images that make it look as they are/will be late period F-18 Hornet versions. I would prefer at least one of them to be a pre-F-18 version of the 1960s & 70's.

Can't comment on the JFK, but I've just got the Kitty Hawk in for review and it's definitely a late version with F-18's. Haven't seen a breakdown of the JFK or the Constellation which I believe is also being released.

That's a shame. Ah well, sounds like it won't matter which kit I go for.

Haven't seen anything on the Connie, is there anything official; box art or announcement from a producer?

Both will be backdated to Nam area.

Is that a fairly big task to do?

I can't understand why these kits all come out as later years ('90s-2000s) and not their golden era of '60s-'70s, 'nam era flying classic warbirds F-4s, RA-5s etc. Even Tamiya's older CVN-65 did the same. All we modellers are going to want to do is back-date them (otherwise we'd just get the Nimitz class).

IBG Models is to release two 1/700 Hunt Type II escort destroyers:

ORP ÅšlÄ…zak 1943: LINK

and

ORP Kujawiak 1942: LINK

70002.jpg

They do a lot of 1/35 and 1/72 vehicles and other equipment, but this is their first foray into ships. Considering how vigorous the modelling community is over there, I'm a little bit surprised that the Poles have taken this long to have a crack at the 1/700 plastic ship market.

Was meant to have been released last year, I've heard the latest date is around May 2016, so around the anniversary of her sinking.

The hull plating detail looks far too deep. Especially when compared to this photograph.

Are the Hunt's waterline or full hull?

thanks

Mike

No idea, but Hannants have them listed as waterline. IBG normally release CAD shots of what they're working on, so if they do so for these two we'll be able to tell then. Hopefully!

why make model of something that never got completed? when there are so many ships that served not been modelled? I mean german aircraft carriers, oh I know they will not have to be spot on or competed also would not have to make aircraft for them

Because some people might find them interesting and like to make them?

Personally I'm not that fussed, I'd rather they did Adm Scheer and Lutzow first in 1/700 but clearly Trumpeter must think there's a market for what they make and I don't recall them in 1/350 before.

thanks

O, nice. I was planning on getting the Revell Graf Zepplin, but as I am planning on getting the Revell 350 Bismarck, I would much rather have the carrier in that scale as well. Thanks Dave, i'll certainly be watching out for that.

I hope they damn well make aircraft for them. I may never get a Ju 87C in 72nd, but a whole squadron in 350 will be the next best thing.
