1/72 Revell Corvette "Snowberry"

Following this with great interest, having built the original Matchbox version more moons ago than I care to remember. I had plans for radio control that never quite worked.

Going to be a beauty when you finish. Incidentally the windows, and the hatches in which they are set in, which are openable for ventilation and a bit of light (and maintenance), are the skylights.

Thanks for the encouragement fellas, still slowly plugging

away with the build when time allows.

Finished the skylight

Next up for mods are the storage lockers and hatchway that are going to

be fitted on the rear superstructure, cut out the "windows"

and fitted some fine steel mesh, and added some scrap brass for

door hinges and handles made with fuse wire. Piccies:

Rear hatchway cut out and steps made from plastic card,

That's it for now, doesn't seem much, but he ho

Good morning,

Bit more progress on the old gal, left the stern and started to do some work on the front bit ( there is no logic to my building sequence )

Did not like the look of the ' winding drum' that is supplied

45Windlassbefore_zps3ec77b2b.jpg

So, cut out some strips of plastic card and modded up a more 'realistic' one

Looks better to my eyes.

Then started working on where the anchor chain runs through, on the model there is just a

empty space between the deck and the hull, so started to make a tunnel with thin strips of

good old plastic card (where would we be without this stuff)

48hawspipemiddle_zpsb73b00a1.jpg

Having done one side I then found a length of old plastic tubing that was as near enough the right size, so

fitted that, sanded the ends flush to the deck and hull and then capped the deck with extra card to

represent the plate steel that would have being there.

More to come eventully

Cheers

Evening All,

Bit more progress, its now starting to look a little bit like a boat, all the decks glued down,

and rope added to the cable drums. Piccies

Two close up shots of the pointed end

and finally, a shot of the rear wooden decks.

That's it for now, I am at present trying to make the anchor chain winding gear look better than the

kit supplied bits.

More to come eventfully

Cheers

You are still doing a wonderful job on her. You might be mad for doing this but you are making me madder wanting to get the Kit and do the same thing......Cheers Mark

I want the big one after watching your build too Martyn, but in the meantime I've had to settle for the 1/350 version. Nice to see all the work you have put in on her! Jock

Really enjoying this. Always wanted to build this kit but probably never will, now. Money, time etc. You're really doing a lovely job on her. They were fascinating little ships.

Thanks for the kind words fellas, appreciate it.

Like I said at the begining, I got her for a steal of E-Bay a couple of years back (dont know why cause I usually build planes)

but so far I have really enjoyed building her, and with scratch building stuff, its taking longer to build, but I am saving

money cause I ain't buying any more models (I can only work on one model at a time). And what little storage space I am allowed,

it is full of kits that need doing

So the longer it takes, the more money I save, (as if )

Cheers

Looking very impressive well done nice tidy work

Ta much

Bit more progress, decided to work on the main gun for now, instead of the anchor winching

gear, I am struggling to make the kit parts look something like, so for now that part of the kit

is in practice mode.

Piccy of gun bits

57maingunbits_zps610d0fd3.jpg

The ' elevation gear' looked pretty naff, soooo got me hands on a old gear quadrant from a pressure

gauge from work.

58rackbitsmaingun_zps2f21a69f.jpg

Made up a little frame from plastic strip, cut of the moulded on gear, and stuck the replacement on in

its place. Added a few bits of plastic to try and give a slightly better replication of the gun. Reshaped the gun mounting

plate (supplied one is on the left)

Evening all, bit more progress.

I have being messing about with the anchor winding gear and finally settled with what I

think is a fair representation of the original.

Pictures can do the talking .

And a few more

Bit of paint to apply, then that's another bit that's good to go.

Looking great Martyn, smart idea on the quadrant too, been an enjoyable build mate!

cheers Jockster.

all the best

Looks spot-on Martyn, it does look like it's a working piece, especially the brakes. I was on holiday in Italy recently and some kid was playing with the brake handle on the boat I was on and dropped the anchor at 20kts, you should have seen how fast the crew moved!!! Lol!

Thanks for the comments fellas, it is much appreciated.

Jockster, never seen a boat do a stoppie before :)

Anyhow, here's another quick update, first two piccies are of the winding gear painted and the

chain roughly fitted. The two holes in the planking are for the anchor chain 'tie down' mounting brackets.

Next picture is my attempt at making the 'tie down' gear for the anchor chain
