Revell 1/72 Type VIIC/41 U-boat `U995`

Recommended Posts

OK... Lets be honest.....

You work for Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) who did/do the special effects for Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc,..... OR..... you work for WETA, who did/do the effects for Lord of the Rings, the (new ) Hobbit etc.

SURELY you aren't a 'Joe Bloggs' at home????!!!

This thing is bl--dy AMAZING!!!

My hat off to you sir.

Something we should ALL aspire to.

(And I don't even build boats/ships etc....!)

If there is an award (and there SHOULD be) for the best model of the year on this website, nobody else would bother to enter!

YOU have already won it by a (nautical) mile!

Roy.

Welkom bij de club Karel!

Quite an entrance to the forums...did you share any progress report on other forums, or just sat locked up in the workshop for a year?

I am fascinated Bij u-boats, but never built one, how big is such a thing in 1/72 anyway?

Brass guns are spectacular, and the rust and weather effect is stunning.

By estimate how much did you spend on it?

well done mate , looking forward to see more of your work like that WLA.

Have you done any aircraft?

Bert

Hi Bert, another Dutchie? :coolio:

The boat is about 1 meter long.

I don`t know how much i spend in total for the accesoires, i think about 150 Euro`s.

The best aftermarket parts in my eyes were the laser cut wooden deck, the brass anti aircraft guns and the metal deck parts, these really add realism to the model.

I forgot to tell that i enhanced the wooden deck by adding wooden `plugs`.

The real deck was mounted on the hull with bolts, the holes in the planks were closed with wooden plugs.

I dupicated these plugs with wooden `partysticks`.

After weathering the wooden deck these plugs are hardly noticable, but i know they are there..

The metal deck plates on the front and the aft of the deck really enhance the look in my opinion.

I also found another pic of the hull somewhere on my harddisc, i really like this pic because of the metal-like shine of some area`s, i achieved this just by rubbing these area`s with my fingers.

Last year i didn`t build anything because lack of time, i am planning to build a 1/72 flower class corvet in the future...

Yep Karel, another Dutchie,

both Britmodeler and Modebrouwers contributor :-)

I have surely enjoyed your thread at modelbrouwers.nl

Congrats on the prizes you have won with this sub, certainly deserved!

Guys, just wait until his man gets his hands on weathering a late period Tomcat...

I cannot really add much to that which has been said already, This is benchmark modelmaking, setting a standard of excellence and providing a lot of the rest of us with both an inspiration and a level of detail most of us dream of producing. Simply stunning! Jockster.

  • 5 weeks later...
  • 1 month later...

The oil canning was quite a time consuming job, i `scraped` each panel until i reached the desired hollow shape with a round scalpel knife.

To achieve a steel like skin on the lower welded panels i used a Dremel tool.

Pictures say more then words:

The effect of the oil canning is less visible because of the matte paint finish, in order to compensate this i highlighted each panel with my airbrush.

Please don`t mind the different color tones in the pictures, they were taken with different light/camera settings.
