Sean_M
I have been wanting to visit the RAF Museum for a long time. Yesterday, despite the weather I convinced the wife to accompany me on a visit. I specifically wanted some close up picts of the Spitfire. I was so dissapointed. The lighting was terrible. It dull and gloomy. Never mind the poor conditions as far photography.
jch_in_uk
I appreciate it's no consolation at all, but the lighting is much improved since the early days. When it first opened flash guns were banned, so coupled with odd fluorescent lighting, you were limited to b&w (ages before digital) or slide-film which was balanced for artificial light. Did you get the side order of Hannants? jh
bentwaters81tfw
The BoB section is best visited on schooldays. When kiddies visit, they show them the a/c individually and floodlight them for short periods, then it's back to doom and gloom. I found this from experience last year. mahross
If you go during the week and don't mind waiting until after 5pm you can take a tripod for more stable photography which will allow for adjustments in lighting. I know not much of a consolation but something to keep in mind. Ross

Sean_M
I was wondering if there are any other museums i.e Duxford, Kent, Sussex where there are similiar aircraft on display in natural or well lit hangers?
pte1643
Most of Duxford is well lit... The only "real" execption being the Land Warfare Hall. Sometimes the light in the American Hangar can be a bit awkward, seeing as one whole wall is actually window. Somwtimes a bit tricky to get pics that face the towards window.
