Acrylic paint stripper/remover?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can use to remove Tamiya and/or Games workshop acrylic paints from

models once it has cured?

I have use Tesco Kitchen Cleaner (with bleach) to successfully remove Humbrol enamels with positive results and

wondered if there is an equivalent product or substance which will work on acrylics?

Thanks

Hi Vincent - Isopropyl alcohol will do the job. Not only is it a fine thinner for Tamiya paints it also removes it too, even when cured. Works for Games workshop too.

You might also find that certain brands of car windscreen wash will work too. I recall that the cheaper ones seem to be best

Cheers

Isopropyl alcohol gets my vote too. I use it with an old toothbrush and it removes Tamiya acrylic without any hitches whatsoever, no matter how long the paint has been down for. The nice thing about it is using an old toothbrush doesn't mar the surface when you're removing the paint.

Gents

Thanks for the responses, I will give the IPA and windscreen wash a go and see which works best
