HL-10
What can I say about Tamiya's new Matilda that hasn't already be said? Not a lot really! It is just an excellent kit, the detail is fantastic, you just need to look at the insulating material on the exhaust pipes leading into the silencer to appreciate the level of detail Tamiya have incorperated. When I first got the model I compared it to their old version, no comparison! Just looking at the smoke dischargers shows what a quantum leap the new kit is. On the new model the bolt action on the firing mechanism is so fine it looks like you could work the bolt. The old kit doesn't even feature the detail. I painted the Caunter scheme using Tamiya acrylics and I used loads of Mig pigments to weather the lady, to give her a dusty look. The tracks, moulded in hard plastic, were rubbed with pencil graphite to give them a shiny steel finish. Washes and chipping added to the weathered, batterd look. Thanks for looking.

foxy
Very nice model. Still have this in the stash to build. Having built two of the older but with resin bits for Australian(pacific). But you are right that the detail is far better for the re-molded version. Very Impressed with the overall finish and the Crew are fantastic. Well Impressed

foxy
Well tis a small tank and there are still a few around. Its armour was the best then but for its main gun. It could take a lot of punishment but the 88mm was to have the upper hand. But in its use in the pacific with the Austalians it proved more than a match for most things.
HL-10
When the Matilda was developed, the British designed her as and "Infantry Support Tank". Her main job was ti support an infantry assault, not go head to head with enemy tanks, and at that time Tigers and Panthers were things of nightmares! She was the most heavily amoured tank of her time. In France the main German anti tank gun, the 37mm, could not penetrate the Matilda's armour. Her main gun, however was not cpable of much against armour and only fired high explosive rounds. In the desert she found herself forced into tank vs tank engagements. She coped against most things, Panzer Is and IIs and the early Panzer IIIs, but when the heavier armoured and armed IIIs and IVs came along, she was out gunned and out classed. In the "Holy Trinity" of tank design, Mobility, Armour, and Armament, she only met up with the first two. She is a nice looking machine though, with some attractive camouflage schemes!
