Yes buddy no probs.

I drew them on the computer using a free drawing program (inkscape) and arranged them in a suitable pattern. I then printed them out on paper just to check the proportions.

Next i duplicated and flipped them as necessary in inkscape to make a set for each tail surface,

Then printed them on to tamiyas excellent masking sheets.

Finally once i was in a calm mood i sat down with the scalpel and sharpening stone and cut out each star in turn to leave star shaped holes in the masking paper.

The stars and bars and us airforce writing i just scanned from a sheet of decals and manipulated them in inkscape and then printed and cut them out.

Cheers for the interest

You bet, very inspirational work!

Thanks for the explanations. I was not aware Tamiya make printable masking sheets, I'll definitely check this out.

And got a bit of the thunderbird masked and painted

i just need to get the birds body/tail done, and the blue nose band.

then it'll be time to sort the gear bays and mount the legs

Got the blue bands on the nose done today,

think i might need to broaden out the upper band though as its a bit skinney.

next up to mask the birds tail without it looking daft, as the lightning has a tall skinney profile, getting the proportions right might be hard

That scheme suits the Lightening superbly. Lovely work.
