Dave Swindell
I heard that at well, Rich. It does indeed seem a strange choice / combination of scale and subject but I wouldn't discount it, based on the source of the rumour. It's big, but not huge - 88cm L x 75cm W for a 900 with wingtips, about the same ballpark as a 72nd AWACS. Can't see me buying one, I guess most airliner modellers would much prefer some up to date retooling of their 1/144 back catalogue, whilst a few would no doubt bite at something in 1/72nd scale - Comet or VC10 anyone? Dave Fleming
Possibile commonality with P-8 Posideon?
HMSLion
Insane if true. I could see a 1/72 P-8, but a 1/48 737? They wouldn't sell more than a few hundred kits.

Simon
Of all the aircraft out there that they could choose for a 1/48 kit, surely that must be so far down the list it's not even credible. As Mike says, an Airfix leg-pull, Shirley...??? Having said that, it's been mentioned and discussed (with due incredulity...) on the Airliner Modeller Yahoo Group...although it has been pointed out that they displayed a mock-up there of 'their' 1/48 Vulcan a few years back... Simon (hoping it's a smokescreen for a range of 1/48 Blenheims...)
lufbramatt
Lol if anyone is taking this seriously then they need a big reality check!
chrisrope
If it is true, then I for one will be disappointed. I do hope it is a joke as R+D costs would be much better spent elsewhere.
Caution Wake Turbulence
I'd buy one.... In fantasy mode for the moment - lots of internal detail would be nice, plus separate control surfaces, high lift devices etc, seperate doors etc. I won't hold my breath though.... Z Aviator
Perhaps this could be the first time the real thing outsells the kit?
Neil Lambess
having fondled the old Aurora 72nd 737 its certainly a hell of a lot smaller than you would imagine..... so a 1/48th 737 would be about the same length as the airfix 72nd concorde..... possibly smaller.... in the states companies like Moebius are quite happily selling 3 ft long seaview subs from VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and the Star trek USS ENTERPRISE in 1/350th by Round 2 makes most 350th warships look tiny.... personally ild prefer one in 72nd myself, especially in the SIMPSONS scheme..... its not as impossible as it sounds
Simon
A certain Mr D Hannant has posted over on the AMD Yahoo Group that he phoned the Airfix Sales manager to ask about the 1/48 airliners, and he denied this rumour completely (after he had finished laughing, apparently!). Best wait for Telford to see what there are doing for next year... Simon
Albeback52
Ok! You can stop pulling my other leg. The ringing of the bells is deafening me! . It's a cover story to throw us all off the scent. The REAL 1/48 kit is actually going to be a fitting tribute to Vulcan XH558!!!! Ok! Ok! I'll keep taking the meds!! You know, this is exactly how rumours start................................!!!!! Edited October 18, 2012 by Albeback52
