The build was simple, colour is Halfords rattle can of Volvo Dark Grey.

Bit of a boo boo with the white waterline on the bow - the hatched lines are a decal, the other line is painted after masking.

And another quality finish from Ken!!

The Sonar at the nose isn't VDG, what colour is it?

How do you sort out the upper & lower hull joint, Ken? My Borei has a VERY noticeable joint where the meet, & i really don't relish the thought of fill, sand repeat.... Any advice?

It's Halfords Rover Tempest Grey - just to give a little contrast.

I have no idea of the true colours - but I think plain black is too stark in this scale.

Some photos of museum models of Russian subs show a silver sonar array - but I went for a paler grey than the very dark grey hull.

It is just that - repeated sanding

I glued the two halves together - an inch at a time.

A thin coat of Halfords Grey Plastic Primer really shows up the joint line - so filler, sanding, primer - until I am satisfied that the joint has 'disappeared'.

It really only took a couple of sessions.

Then I sprayed on Halfords White Plastic Primer around the area of the waterline and masked it off with thin (.7mm) Tamiya-type tape.

(The thin tape looked straight by eye - it was only when I looked at the finished photos that I noticed that it dipped down too much at the bow).

Then the Rover grey on the bow, followed by the Volvo Dark Grey (an almost black colour).

The decals were applied directly to this gloss finish - then some brushed Tamiya black acrylic into the vent holes and finally, a few mist coats of Games Workshop 'Purity Seal' - a great satin clear acrylic varnish - to seal it all in.

I then use brown and black pastel pencils, rubbed onto a piece of emery to give a powder - this is then judiciously brushed on to give a bit of rust staining.

The model is then glued to the base and the three figures - from a set of Fujimi 1:350 scale japanese Naval figures - were stuck in place to give a bit of scale to the model.
