11 Squadron Retirement Scheme Harrier

After disbanding in 2005, 11 squadron stood up again in 2006 as a Harrier Squadron, however this was to be short lived as in 2010 the whole Harrier fleet was retired as a result of spending cuts.

To mark their retirement after 41 years’ service, 16 Harriers took off from their base at RAF Cottesmore, Rutland, and performed a spectacular flypast of seven other RAF bases, the nearby towns of Stamford and Oakham, as well as Lincoln Cathedral.

11Sqn provided a GR9 in a special retirement scheme celebrating the 1984 scheme from the Lightning which led the 16 ship formation.

For this I'll be using the Airfix 1/72 Harrier and Xtradecals for the Lightning scheme.

I've started with the cockpit bits and pieces, and will post an update later. I'm keeping to scheme changes only for this GB in the hope that I finish something!

Thanks Col, it's a good kit, and with acrylic paints you can make good progress in a day of effort.

The gloss coat is drying right now, Wednesday should see me laying down some decals.
