Heinkel he177-A6 armed with Wotan nuclear warheaded V1

Recommended Posts

Built the lovely Revell He 177-A5 a few years ago out of the box ,a good simple fun build .

Got the A6 version when it came out and have been looking for a reason to put it on the bench . To make this a What-if build im going to attach a Whitecat models resien nuclear warheaded V1 somehowe, somewhere. Things will come together during the build with a little help, i hope from other members of the G/Build .Just a few pics of the kits to get started and roll on the 6th

Welcome to the GB Alistair. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle both models and integrate them together as well as the back story :D

Chapter one . We must double hoe production

" I tell you Goring , those pisky Americas are going to pay for that..and i dont mean with Euroes " The Furer was clearly a little upset after the sucsses of the Allied operationeTitchmarsh ; The audasious joint RAF bomber Command and USAAF daylight raid to drop over 5,000 tones of chopped Japanese Knot weed over the prime german Agricultural areas. The Allied commanders could not have dreamt how sucsesful the operation would be. No fewer than 20 frontline German divisions had been withdrawn from the Rusian front to be equiped with hoes and knapsack sprayers to try to repel the noxious weed. Only last week another 35 of the Luftwaffes newest aircraft had crashed on take off or landing due to the knot weeds devistating damage to the concreate runway

It was after this momentous meeting that Hitler and Goring put together the plan for Operation X Factor , something so horrible the Americans would want to die .

Goring walked slowly back to his office ,he didnt feel like skipping in fact he had no spring to himself . why had he promised that his Luftwaffe could participate in operation X Factor as he had no ideas at all . It had been a rash promise to drop wet leaves on to the Allied railway network in the hope of delaying the movement of vital supplies . The British government had just done the job for him with a dissastorous administrative cock up (Will those Brits never learn ? )

He had until October the 6th to come up with the new plan otherwise the prospect of getting the job of test piloting the newly developed V1 Wotan nuclear suicide bomb would come his way . Hang on , he thought, we could use one on the Allies rather than continuously test them at Peenemünde where the residents of the local village were starting to get a bit pi**d off with the mushroom clouds

October the 6th had come around all to fast for Goring and as he strutted towards the big oak doors of his bosses office he thought how unfair it was that the Allied commanders didn't have such unpridictable leaders as his .

The other side of the doors,Hitler was in another foul mood as his personal astrologist had got his job description mixed up and given hitler a weather report. It seemed that the Fatherland was due some unseasonably sunny weather for the next month , ideal for knot weed growth. Yet more of the Richs metal production would need to be diverted to garden tool manufacture.

Come in Goring and stand please on that trap door while you explain your ideas.

A little trickle of yellow liquid seeped out from the bottom of Gorings trousers ,how he now wished he had been wearing jodpurs and his long black boots . He could here the liquid through the trap door and it seemed to be very deep .

Well you know of our wonder weapon the V1 well we have just finished the plans for the newer (best ever) V1 called the Wotan and i propose we launch one against a target in the united States

Hitler looked at the back of the envalope that Goring had laid out the seed of the plan

Thats COOL Goring ,lets do it lets kick some bottom

Goring put his hand up to high five the Fuhrer but hitler was already finalising another plan to land 50 of his most eliet divisions on the isles of scilly (he hd obviously over estimated their size and strategic inportance)

Later that day at the underground Revell bunker Goring put his order in for a modified He 177 able to air launch the Wotan . Could the clever team get this assembled intime for 30th December when Uncle Sam would get the Final of the X Factor ?

The first delivery of parts for the wotan arrived care of the german rail system , however on their long ,peralous journy from the White cat works to Gorings mancave reparations5-0012.jpg

the train had come under attack from a lone Supermarine Alegro with its distinktive square spinner damage had been severe as many of the parts were now deformed and full of holes. P1130093.jpg

P1130101.jpg

Work was quickly started to fill in the dents P1130102.jpg

It was also apparant that the slave workers at White cat had sabbataged the parts as no rear exit for the jet gasses had been constructed. Not only would the Wotan not fly it would also look stupid P1130094.jpg

Goring got on the phone to all the spares depots...

I wish the internet had been invented Goring mutterd as he phoned yet another Spare part dump He had tracked down a new tail section from a standard V1 which had been made to the wrong specs < it seemed the factory scale rule had been upside down P1130095.jpg

A little cuting and welding and P1130100.jpg

P1130103.jpg

P1130109.jpg

It seemed to fit ...sort of

The two halfs of the body were peged with metal tube to enable the bomb to stay in one piece as the pulse jet vibrated severly. in fact all parts were pined with brass tube

P1130105.jpg

The war head was looking far more warhead like now the dent had been filled in .

Goring let himself smile as he visulised the added confusion that would be caused by the cloud of attomised Milliput put in to the atmosphere over the target ( still to be decided ) P1130107.jpg

Now things were comming together rather well . P1130110.jpg

P1130111.jpg

Tomorrow weather permitting the wings can be attached.

The way things are going with the Wotan you, sorry, Goring, would have been better scratchbuilding the bugger!

Lots of proper modelling on show here and that's only on the weapon so far. Has Goring any idea where this is going to hang off the 177 yet?

The boffins at the new wind tunnel complex hermgor.jpg will now have to make a decision on where to hang the wotan as three major conciderations need to be taken into account

1. Wind drag as fuel needs to be conserved

2. launching dangers as hot gasses from the Argos jet can damage aircraft structure (why Argos and not Argus got the contract we do not know as the team that made the decission misteriously disapeard)

3. What it all looks like together sitting on the runway.

Goring studied the documents from the tunnel results and quickly realised that deep down number 3 was the most inportant as wots the point in having a new toy if you cant show it off.

So its going to sit on top he barked down the phone and i want it to revolve and light up. On the other end of the phone line at the RLM techniche amt one of the more flambouant desighners rememberd his pre war bus tour that whent past New scotland Yard in London.

Ideas to consider.

The trapease( 3 ) seemed to be the answer . It would have some movement and the Wotan would surely make a statement to the General staff that Goring had the best toys

That would save the pulse jet engine frying the 177s tail upon light-up and making the journey home 'interesting'. Bit of a bugger if the lads flew all that way to nuke the US only to find they can't turn left and make for Argentina but rather have to continue straight on toward that funny shaped cloud.

Goring could not help him self think how faster the Wotan could have gon together if the Slaves had not been on flexitime, any way it was now all together and just needed a lick of paint .Upto this point no consideration had been given to colour schems . Normally the RLM would get the public to vote on a premium rate phone line on what colours and pattens the next new aircraft model should have ,but this would have to stay a secret so it was up to him.

P1130112-1.jpg

Work was also in an advanced stage of construction in the Trapeze launching system ,part of which had been fabricated from an unexploded bomb droped by a Lancaster .

P1130115.jpg

P1130114.jpg

Now work had to be speeded up on the He 117 ,trouble was that the factory was totaly run by ex injury lawers who had been rounded up from all over the occupied countries . They seemed to be paralised by fear of doing anything incase they were sued. Goring realised that a personal visit by himself was needed .

That does look like it means business!

How's progress on the 177?

Hi Col

Work on the 117 has started . All parts cut and cleaned . When i made my first 117 many years ago i remember a nice quality kit . With the passage of time (13yrs) since Revell released the kit the one i hahe just cleaned was coverd in flash and the transparecies are anything but transparent so there will be no advantage in super detailing the cockpit with any etch.

Via a Enigma intercept i here Goring is going to post some pics tonight .
