jaw
Hi, I want to build a 1/72 Lightning F3 and am attracted by the more modern Trumpter kit, in preference to the ancient Airfix offering. Yet I recall that the Trumpeter kit is not as good as it might be so would appreciate any advice that BMers can offer on how to improve the kit. If anybody has got a Tumpeter F3 that they want to sell please let me know! Thanks, John
keefr22
I'd suggest you have a read of Bill 'Navy Bird's' build thread on here; http://www.britmodel...topic=234909248 Although it's of a later model Frightning, it does point out what some of the generic problems across Trumpy's range of Lightning's are. It also shows what a superb silk purse can be turned out of a pig's ear of a kit by a skilled modeller! Navy Bird
I wonder how the belly tank is on the Trumpeter F.3 kit? Anybody know? I'd love to build up an F.3 as well! Cheers, Bill

Cheers, Bill It's got the squashed, bowed out appearance (looking fore/aft) that the F6 has so Trumpeter failed with that one also (it actually reminds me of the Gannet AEW's radar bulge)!! Even worse, the Neomega resin replacement fuselage for the T4 has copied the small belly tank shape but fixed the rear fuselage nipped appearance! Sounds like another kitbash, this time lifting the belly tank from the old Airfix model...damn, I just donated that to my club for a raffle. Iain Ogilvie
Belly tank in the early airframes is way out (and errors mirrored in the 1:32 kits. This was part way through: My findings/corrections in the larger scale start here. Iain
