Sgt.Squarehead
Presumably subsidising this sort of madness goes some way to explain why Hasegawa are trying to charge over £40 for two average 1/72 aircraft kits in one box? Everyone else seems to be able to manage it for under £20.
-Neu-
Presumably subsidising this sort of madness goes some way to explain why Hasegawa are trying to charge over £40 for two average 1/72 aircraft kits in one box? Everyone else seems to be able to manage it for under £20. Umm, there are a number of threads on here that address this. Long story short; its not Hasegawa that sets the foreign market price, its largely the exporters. For example, I recently purchased this dual set for the equivalent of £16. http://www.hlj.com/product/HSG01985
Sgt.Squarehead
How does 'who' sets the price make any difference to me? Anyway, I don't want to drag the thread any further off-topic, so I will conceed that the Japanese manufacturers do indeed make some really odd stuff! BrandX
Well, each to their own... I guess most of these things are intended for diorama work with Anime figures -scale kits of school desks are also hugely popular in the Japanese domestic market, since so many Anime stories focus on characters who have to deal with school work, office jobs and and a complex social life when they aren't out doing Shinigami stuff or whatever. The weird thing is, a quick look at HLJ reveals that 1/12 is not a very common scale for these figures...go 'figure'!
lufbramatt
Now we can make mdels of our modelling desks! THose cunning Japenese, a whole new modelling area! I'll get my Christian the Married You could use the aircraft from 1/350 aircraft carrier kits, they'd work out about the right size for a 1/12 model of a 1/32 model :-)
pigsty
You don't seriously think this is confined to Japan, surely? Airfix started out making rubber balls and one of their best-selling products was Weebles.
HL-10
Is it me or does the width of the dest look a bit off?
Paul J
Airfix also did plastic combs and the Homepride flour men also cassette tape racks! But Tamiya are such a huge industry. The model kit side is just a small part of their products! Look at Mitsubishi , Kawasaki, Hitachi and so on. They do everything from agricultural equipment to TVs, Motorbikes etc.
Enzo the Magnificent
The Tamiya model cake stuff looks superb!! It does look good. But model cakes have the same problem as model aircraft etc. where do you store them when they are finished. Far better to make real cakes, which don't have the storage problem
Lothian man
While on the topic of food (and trying not to get too hungry so early in the late morning), how about this? (Sorry if anyone else has mentioned it of late, but a search suggests not on BM.) http://www.hlj.com/product/HLJ16035 discounted here to about £4 basic price http://www.hlj.com/product/DMG-1-HLJ16035 Though I can get it at much the same price and just the same scale at the local gohan, and no storage problem either ...
