Wez
I've got another couple questions regarding later MiG-21's... ...what's the colour of the boot on the bottom of the control column? What colour is the radar scope screen when the power is off? The 4-Plus book is a bit vague on this. Thanks Wez
Giorgio N
The radar screen is like an old CRT TV when it's turned off. The boot at the base of the control stick looks black in the pictures I have here.
upnorth
The radar scope could simply be represented by gloss black when the power is off.
Wez
Thanks guys, fortunately we've got a couple of "old style" telly's in the house, I'll use those as the basis for my painting. Wez
Julien
If you still have any old film negatives around a cut circle of old negative I find gives a convincing look. Julien

ya-gabor
The base of the control column is black rubberized textile. The radar "screen" is in fact a polarizing filter which is at 45 degrees angle and it is completely black when the radar is switched off. You can rotate it to adjust the contrast of the screen when it is on. A very simple but very effective device. The "tubus" (the round cover around the screen) of the radar is covered with black velvet on the inside (to completely cut down on reflections) and on the outside it is greyish black rubber. Anything else? Best regards Gabor
Wez
Gabor, this is great and useful information thank you. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I progress. Wez
