Airfix 72nd Harrier GR3

Recommended Posts

Don't actually remember buying this.

It was quite possibly a freebee - found in with something else I've bought.

However, complete apart from one gunpod - so lets get cracking.

Here are the parts:

Whilst I'm here - this is my previous Airfix 72nd Harrier.

This one was given to a local Vicar - who had been an SEO in a former career.

Mounted on a stand - he was delighted with it.

And now I'll explain what's going on in the whitewash workshop.

A dilute mix of acrylic white paint - known by the appropriate shade of Snow has been mixed.

This is roughly applied to all the green camo areas - trying to skirt around the markings.

I'm guessing this is what happened during deployments to Norway - paint probably being applied by mop or whatever else the crew could find.

I'll edit in more images a bit later when that's completed.

I like this. I was thinking of doing something along the same lines with painting the white over the green. I've done the winter camo before but not with the green underneath.

Nice .....

Just a couple of points about winter cam.

It was something we applied prior going out to Northern Norway in the 80's. Generally slapped on on the flight line prior to flying out. It was always rough and ready. so you have caught that well.

The external stores .... the 100 gall tanks would have been on whilst it was painted but the SNEB pods would not, so they would have stayed green. A CBLS would have been on the centre line pylon also green.
