theplasticsurgeon Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Don't actually remember buying this. It was quite possibly a freebee - found in with something else I've bought. However, complete apart from one gunpod - so lets get cracking. Here are the parts: This This one will be posed on undercarriage, in Arctic camo. Edited September 15, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Whilst I'm here - this is my previous Airfix 72nd Harrier. This one was given to a local Vicar - who had been an SEO in a former career. Mounted on a stand - he was delighted with it. Edited September 15, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
SaintsPhil Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Nice quick build to end the GB, nice choice of scheme too
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 A bit of assembly work, and one of my pre-painted pilots takes me to Sat atop the box of my recent 48th Harrier
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) stuck the canopy on, and a quick airbrushing of grey. Not the greatest focus - but you see what's moving. Edited September 17, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) I've painted on the camo pattern now. Edited September 19, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Unmasked the canopy. Decals over the weekend. Edited September 21, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Decals - No1 Squadron option. and around the cockpit Still working on undercarriage
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 And now with undercarriage and weapons. It looks complete - but I've got other plans for the morrow. I'm very pleased with this - a definite improvement over my previous 72nd Airfix Harrier.
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) A couple more photos of flying around my garden on the end of an arrow. It's currently in the whitewash workshop. See you later Edited September 23, 2012 by theplasticsurgeon
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) And now I'll explain what's going on in the whitewash workshop. A dilute mix of acrylic white paint - known by the appropriate shade of Snow has been mixed. This is roughly applied to all the green camo areas - trying to skirt around the markings. I'm guessing this is what happened during deployments to Norway - paint probably being applied by mop or whatever else the crew could find. I'll edit in more images a bit later when that's completed. theplasticsurgeon Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Emerging from the whitewashing.
Skeg Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I like this. I was thinking of doing something along the same lines with painting the white over the green. I've done the winter camo before but not with the green underneath.
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 And now to show off the weathered belly - from the airshow angle! Muck from my paint brush cleaning jar, and VERY dilute black paint. Farewell my fellow Close_Air_Supporters - this is Tim signing off
Sad Git Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Nice ..... Just a couple of points about winter cam. It was something we applied prior going out to Northern Norway in the 80's. Generally slapped on on the flight line prior to flying out. It was always rough and ready. so you have caught that well. The external stores .... the 100 gall tanks would have been on whilst it was painted but the SNEB pods would not, so they would have stayed green. A CBLS would have been on the centre line pylon also green.
theplasticsurgeon Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 I can fix the SNEBs. Don't have any 72nd CBLS - so I guess that's an empty pylon then.
