phat trev
What RAF Squadrons used the DH Vampire F.3? Are there any colour plates available of the markings used, I have the wing pallet website bookmarked and it is a good resource but i am wondering if there are any other reference material available. thanks
Wez
Using Modeldecal sheets 100 and 101 as a guide: 73 Sqn RAF 601 Sqn RAuxAF 604 Sqn RAuxAF 608 Sqn RAuxAF 614 Sqn RAuxAF How's that for starters? If you're making one in 1/72nd scale do yourself a favour and get hold of the Modeldecal sheets. Wez

A-Models do a Vampire 3 with tanks and rounded tips....not cheap - compared to the Heller/Airfix/Revell kit but a nice accurate model
phat trev
thanks Bill. prehaps a source for the tanks but i have started to fasion some wingtips from some hurricane tail pieces which works well actually. I have some tanks from a heller tempest and also some from the old airfix hunter both I could chop up to create DH underwing tanks I feel.

AnonymousAA72
Oh come on Bill, "that's what milliput and wet 'n dry were made for" DR Ha-very-Ha Dennis!!! Though coincidentally back in 1989 (I think) when Modeldecal brought out sheets 100 & 101 I converted an old Heller FB5 into an F3 -in 601 Sqn RAuxAF colours of course - using plastic card and the drop tanks from the Heller Tempest wtih Milliput - just as Trev suggests here ---spooky eh? Of course newer more accurate models should be a better option 23 years down the line - when one gets to the 'too many projects not enough project time stage' to be fiddling about with Milliput - I may need to change my message!!!
